Review of a Ranger Hardcore Playthrough

I have now one playthrough of this game (enhanced edition) under my belt. I played on Ranger-Hardcore all HUD Elements disabled. Sadly i had to push myself through this game, especially towards the end. This is a linear, cinematic game with some openworld sections threwn into it. I must say the openworld sections were a lot of fun to play but the linear sections suffer the same problems you had in the first and second installment of this franchise. NPC that walk really slowly and won't shut up about clearly obvious stuff whilst hindering your progress because artyom seems to have a selective phobia of doors, so your annoying npc compagnion has to open it for you. but that ain't the worst part. Awesome, big and scary, mutant grizzly bear: Killed in a cutscene. The comicly evil douchebag, who made your stay in the desert an absolute shitshow and who is keeping slaves and is beating and executing them for the crime of merely existing: Killed in a cutscene. You get the drill. Despite my super duper hardcore playthrough i never had the feeling that i was challenged. There were only 2 occasions where i felt "challenged" and that was because of bad map design, combined with an assault of hitscan enemies or the geometry not working properly. It seems that sometimes your body can clip slightly through cover. Also the story is way to drawn out, melodramatic, uninteresting and of course you discover the promised land you sought after the last 20 hours, you guessed it, in a cutscene. No one last open map, where you discover and conquer your new home. You kill a librarian in a cutscene, back on the train, almost die in a cutscene, then boom, a few hundred kilometers further, welcome home, game is over, go away now. So for the positves. The guns are as always very imaginative and have a thounderous sound and impact. The graphics are very atmospheric and beautiful. The business model is fair. This game is always so close to good but then misses the mark, it's a bit sad really.

Unplayble

Great game all the way to the desser chapter and then it is game over. Lighthouse bug, that has been in the game since forever (reading through yers old forum posts) and somehow was not fixed??!! Had to restart the whole chapter and on the second try the game just freezes befere I can even get to that deamn thing, how is this even being sold?!! (Ryzen 7600, RTX 3070, 32GB RAM).

Worst of The Three Games

Much of the writing reminds me of high school characters. Like at a pep rally, doing cheers and such. The first two games were gripping tales in a dark and somber atmosphere. Very adult like for the most part. This game, from the outset felt like the writers were all still in high school, writing ultimate cliche characters. It looks good and plays good so if you can overlook terrible conversations, then play it. I've owned this game for years (3 I think) and still haven't bothered to finish it. The first two I finished right after buying them. And have gone back for more. I will finish this eventually. Not all of it sucks, to be clear, it just feels more like a chore rather than exciting. The whole chilling, dark atmosphere is mostly gone.

Pretty, fun, but distractingly dumb.

+ Captivating atmosphere & graphics + Engaging, albeit limited exploration + Relatively minimalist HUD + Impactful sound effects + Decent gunplay - Cutscenes wrench control from you during pivotal moments to make certain scenes more cinematic (I suppose), but instead it breaks immersion, flow, and any sense of agency . . . they also happen to be unskippable - Low IQ, histrionic characters who just won’t shut up at times, and worse still is the awkward, painfully nonsensical mute protagonist - Story/writing ranges from serviceable to stupid, and its insistence on being taken oh-so-seriously had the opposite effect - The music often molds already melodramatic scenes into sharp cheddar - Laughable overuse of deus ex machina - Hold E for the most menial actions - Environment snags galore - Lame karma system - QTEs - AI?

Gun cleaning simulator

I own enough guns that need to be cleaned in real life, I dont need this. Seriously I step outside and shoot gun 2x at a fish and it needs to be cleaned again. No weapon ever needs to be cleaned this much. Invisible walls and getting stuck on environment are major issues as well. Switching difficulty lower to avoid gun cleaning is not an option as this game is way to easy as it is. Simply put I dont want to be constantly running back after 2 shots to clean my gun, its not fun and should never be in a game even if it were realistic (its not).
