Overrated in every aspect

I dont know how "metro:exodus" got such good ratings. The great and atmospheric graphics aside, this game is at best mediocre in every other aspect. The story is overall ok, but it is driven by extremely annoying characters and aweful dialogues presented with a fake russian accent. The cutscenes are so damned long, and these boring characters just wont stop talking. It feels like they could have chopped them down to half the length without losing anything (except some blant dramaturgy). The "open" world is a nice scenery, but exploration is somewhat not very entertaining. In fact, this feels more like a rail-shooter than anything else, "press E for awesome" is strong in this one. Yes, there are sometimes different approaches to accomplish a target, but all feel scripted. Stealth, shooting, the cutscenes, everything feels unpolished and I dont know how some people are drawn into this by the atmosphere. Its not completely bad though, just terribly overrated.

Старое новое Метро. Без метро. Почти.

С серией Метро я познакомился ещё в момент выхода первой части. Это была не особо примечательная игра, с неплохим сюжетом, интересным сеттингом, и просто отвратительной стрельбой. Потом вышла продолжение, которое было на голову выше предшественника, а затем и Редукс версия подтянулась, которая исправила многие огрешности оригинала. А потом, в 2019 вышел Исход. И я боялся в неё играть. Сразу было заявлено, что нас ждёт полу-открытый мир, крафт, аванпосты, и прочие прелести современного геймдева. И вот, прошло больше года с релиза, игра пропатчилась, обросла парой ДЛС, и я наконец окунулся в неё, предварительно пройдя еще раз прошлые части. И это именно то Метро, каким оно и должно быть. Первым делом в глаза бросаются катсцены, которых в прошлых 2 частях было мало (касательно диалогов с другими персонажами). Как было раньше: стоим мы, как вкопанные, стоит наш собеседник, и что-то нам говорит, пока наш товарищ также стоит рядом, и иногда что-то добавляет. Как стало: персонажи активно взаимодействуют с нами, здороваются, дают пять, активно используют окружающие предметы. Да и нам выдали папироску с чаем, которыми мы иногда можем пользоваться в диалогах (чисто декоративная функция). И ты действительно чувствуешь себя участником этих событий, а не сторонним наблюдателем... Хотя в некоторых моментах молчание Артёма уж слишком выбивается из общей картины, что странно для меня, т.к. в ДЛС для Ласт Лайта протагонисты участвовали в диалогах, шутили, и комментировали происходящее, что похвалили многие игроки. А тут мы опять вернулись к корням. Иногда доходит до абсурда, когда нам надо захватить вражеского капитана, а Артём как бабуин скачет вокруг него с оружием, пока напарник открывает дверь и начинает говорить. Но всё-же плюсов в игре больше. Чего только стоит атмосфера и персонажи. Никогда не думал, что мне будет интересно сидеть 10 минут, и просто слушать разговоры о жизни. Да что там, это 3 игра, которая заставила меня плакать в конце (после Валиант Хеарт и Ведьмака 3).

Often it rates a 5, until all the bugs..

Storyline was well done for the most part. The landscape and environments were beautiful. What I had a hard time getting over [to the point of ditching the game at serveral times] was one hard freeze after another requiring a reboot. There was no rhyme or reason for this and I tried every so called "solution" from installing DX10 to changing this setting and that setting, but to no avail. It eventually settled down but what a way to ruin a game. I have a non-overclocked system with robust components and latest video drivers, so there is no excuse for all the abrupt disruptions I encountered. Someone dropped the ball on maintenance and upkeep with this game. The other less annoying factor was the fact that despite changing my keybindings for forward, back, etc, I had to keep resetting to the defaults to be able to move on from some redundant and superfluous scenes - like all the frigging cigarette breaks! For a story about a group of people trying to keep their health in a world threatened by radiation and sparse resources, leaving them reliant on having an exceptional amount of stanima, you would think smoking would be one of the first things to be discarded in the ashes of the past. But not this crew, even the heroine of the story who ends up displaying symptoms of TB continues to smoke while spitting up blood. I understand that smoking is still accepted in certain cultures but in game play it can be a real annoyance when you are offered a smoke break every so often and are not given the ability to bind a key to "No thanks, I don't smoke." The Two Colonels turned out the to be more of an interactive short movie than an actual game. The first part is filled with some rather mundane tunnel cleaning that was rather monotonous . Sam's Story was just more of the same from Exodus.

A game worth playing

This is great gameplay and storytelling IMHO. The setting and the world around your character feels alive, especially in the main story campaign. The setting is not some huge open world map mindlessly peppered with fetch quests. The level design provides you with enough freedom to explore and experiment without distancing yourself from the main story. This is high quality over quantity. All three stories (main story & 2 dlc) are worth seeing through to the end. A lot of love and care went into crafting this post apocalyptic world and it was a pleasure to ride it out.

Great game, but please, let my boy speak

I had a lot of fun, exploring the overworld of the Metro universe. The open levels are nicely designed and, thank god, it's not overloaded with side quests and things to do like in a modern Ubi game. The shooting mechanics felt solid and upgrading your equipment motivates even more, searching for new weapon parts or items. The Stealth mechanics were okay. Story wise it's good too, but the ending felt very abrupt. Also, there is a big problem with the player character Artyom, who doesn't speak ingame for the THIRD time! There are many scenes, where people interact and talk with him, and it felt extremely odd, that he never responds or says anything. It works in Half Life or other titles, but not here, in my opinion.
