Good Port:better than the Humble version

Short Version: Good port, fixed the issues that the Humble Bundle version had (IE: framerate, user interface, key bindings) First a little background on this purchase: I originally bought the Humble Bundle featuring the metal slug games and found them to be miserable as the emulator that it used was abysmal with the framerate seeming to be in the single digits for everyone that purchased it. Seeing Metal Slug X released on GoG, I decided to buy it with the intention on leaving a review in case it was just as poor of a "port" as Humble Bundle's. I am happy to say this version is infinitely better at the framerate is consistent and it seems that the emulator used for this version has been revamped to be more user friendly. The addition of controller support and rebindable keys is fantastic and the game plays as good now as it did in '99.

Good porting. 1. Fluid & smooth framerate. 2. Authentic sound. 3. Has support for PS controller 4. CRT scanline support for your nostalgia. 5. Screen resolution & Full-screen and windowed change support. 6. NO DRM trouble. What's not to like? Recommended for your nostalgia at 3USD!

A much better version of Metal Slug II

Metal Slug II is a great game but it had it's problems, not the least of which was horrible slow down. This version is much better and fixes a lot of the issues people had with the second game. Having said that, this game still offers something to those who may already have Metal Slug II, which in my mind justifies a purchase. But if you're only going to get one, this is definitely the one to get. A lot of the people complain about these Metal Slug games, not realizing that the emulation is actually spot on. Of course the downside to that is performance related issues are also emulated, so it doesn't really matter if you have an 8 core @ 5GHZ and a 1080, you're not going to be running this game at 60fps. But in truth, this is part of the charm. Think of the slowdown as bullet-time - that's really the purpose it serves when things are going haywire and projectiles are coming at you from every angle. I recommend a joystick for these games, or at the very least a gamepad. Anything with Xinput will be recognized immediately, and you can easily assign the buttons as you see fit. Playing with a keyboard might work but I do not recommend it at all. If you really want to play Metal Slug as it's intended, I recommend getting a Hori Mini 4 or Qanbi Carbon joystick. Also, be sure and go into your Nvidia or AMD control panel and set scaling to 4:3 so that you can the native experience. In short, these are very fun games. Taking the time to get good at them and finally being able to breeze through the game on a single credit is a uniquely rewarding experience. I recommend these games, Metal Slug X and Metal Slug III speficially, to fans of Contra, or the action shooter or bullet hell genres. These games are quite fun.

An Improved Metal Slug 2!

Metal Slug X is actually an improved version of Metal Slug 2. The same selectable characters are here from MS2. The stages are mostly the same with some cosmetic changes and a few reskinned enemy NPCs. The biggest change is the first stage being at night and its end boss being a ground unit. The slowdown that hindered MS2 has also been fixed! For those who like Metal Slug 2, but thought it needed some tweaks, Metal Slug X is right up your alley. For two controller co-op in the Linux and Mac versions: have 2P press COIN (R Bumper) then press START. XInput gamepads are supported!

Best Metal Slug

This is the best metal slug of the 4 on gog. Good port, no issues at all. Eveything works fine.
