A realistic Skyrim?

The most common description of this game seems to be "a realistic skyrim" which is both misleading and accurate at the same time. There are several similarities to Skyrim, both good and bad, but on the whole this is targeting a very different demographic. Where Skyrim is about as mainstream as one can get, KCD is aimed more towards people who enjoy a challenge. What the two games have in common is a beautiful open world, lots of poorly written and repetative fetch/kill quests, midieval weponry and that is pretty much where the similarities end. While KCD has a much higher standard of writing than Skyrim for many of its quests, especially the main quest, there are quite a few side quests that are every bit as lazy and uninspired as anything Bethesda's radiant system has produced. Realism is KCD's core design philosophy, which includes historical accuracy, and they have done a truly impressive job at it. Combat in KCD is one of those love it or hate it systems where opinions will differ quite alot. The idea is that you have to read your opponent, anticipate his moves and react accordingly, which is all well and good, but KCD can't quite pull it off. Instead you basically just wait for the green light (target reticle changes to a green shield when a strike is incomming) and dodge/parry - retaliate. My biggest gripe with melee combat is that it locks you on to 1 opponent, making multiple opponents downright frustrating, and also requires you to aim the direction of your attacks with your mouse, which is less than accurate unless you play with unusually low DPI. It does not help that the mouse also controls where you are looking, often leading to you looking away and locking on to another opponent instead of aiming a strike. This is not an issue 1vs1, but all too often you are forced to engage groups of enemies which this combat system simply does not do well. Range combat is even harder with you having to try and aim the arrow without a reticle while the bow sways back and forth. The swaying is reduced as your bow skill increases but it never stops being about personal skill (or luck) rather than character stats. The most consistent complaints right now are the amount of bugs and horrible optimisation, both of which are unfortunately major issues at the time of writing this review. My pc is capable of running Ethan Carter in VR with everything on ultra, but this game keeps stuttering and freezing randomly inspite of a consistent 80+ fps. Have also encountered quite a few bugs, including several that breaks the main quest, so it is worth waiting on a few major patches before picking this up. Still, a fantastic game i have had alot of fun with inspite of its technical difficulties.

Great game, stupid engine

This game is masterpiece in every as[ect exept of performance. It has the wors draw speed and distance I ever saw. Even with 1080TI I am experiansing huge Draw lag, some textures are loaded only after 5-10 seconds. PUT IT ON SSD, and mb the problem will be less annoying. Everething else is holding preaty well. One of the most interesting combat systems I ever saw, wery cool and immersive story and I spend 4 hours reading codex where devs describe middleage lifestyle. If you dont mind some bugs and like RPG this will entertain you for 200 hours at least.

Great experience

The developers made alot of things right. The design is great, the feel is amazing, the fear of being attacked and killed is real. I have had a great time playing this. But it is not all great, there were alot of game breaking bugs for me, bugs that shouldnt be in production, but they were. Had to use the save Mod because I lost far too many hours in crashes. There is alot to do in the world, but it lacks continuity. The quests seem flat, added to the game world as chains of dialog. There is some that really affect the world, but not enough to give satisfaction. The game was very hard for me, at the begining, but after about 15 hours I figured out some of the mechanics and it bacame too easy very quickly, and kind of boring. From having difficulty fighting one armed dude to fighting 6 with no problem. This took the edge and alot of fun with it. The worst thing for me were the bugs, everywhere, taking me out of the fantasy, constantly. For me this is a solid 8/10, alot of effort, great ideas, and great feel. minus the bugs.

Отличная игра, очень понравилась.

Графика красивая, музыка и озвучка подобрана хорошо. Много интересностей, тайников и кладов. Возможность прокачать героя так, как нравится. Никакой магии ) Если ваш комп соответствует минимальным сист. требованиям - будет долго грузиться и подвисать. Пришлось докупать оперативку до 12 гб ) Полетело ) Для облегчения нагрузки на комп можно поставить эффекты воды, отражения и тени на минимум. Это ускорит игру )) Мой ноут автоматически выставил средние настройки, после настройки играю на высоких )) Ноут греется, но тащит. Притного прохождения ) Не Ведьмак3, конечно, но в целом приятная и интересная игра ))
