looks kind of cute but lacks soul
Ittle Dew is not really a bad game. However, it relies too heavily on mimicking Zelda, but adds little to the formula and even strips away some core elements. Take story for an example. Zelda stories may not be the deepest, but they create context for the player. Here we only get some supposedly witty remarks aimed at Zelda-cliches, which somtimes can be mildly amusing. But there is no actual plot nor any real characterisation. This makes the parody aspect stand out as distant, hollow and selfserving. Gameplay consists mainly of solving block-pushing puzzles and occasionally fighting enemies.The puzzle aspect is quite okay actually, although hardly original. Combat on the other hand is unprecise and tiresome. The visual design is rather unimaginative. Characterdesign emphasizes the parody-aspect - enemies wear pajamas or are actual pancakes - but they are designed simply for laughs, not to fit organically into the world, which is why they get old soon. Also some characters do not look like watching them from a topdown view (which they should), but rather from the side. Unfortunately this is especially true for the protagonist, which looks quite awkward. Music is rather repetetive, too. Ittle Dew makes no serious effort to connect to the player - it rather observes from a safe distance. There is no mystery, no sense of wonder. From a game inspired by Zelda I expect more than mere mimicry.
