Heroes of Might and Magic® 4: Complete

As I was fanatic about HOMM3, I bought HoMM4 as soon as it came out. I absolutely hated it when I first got it. I rejected it simply because it was different, not that it was bad. As I play more and more the game just grabs with with its much improved skills, spells, combat, and town building. People may say that some aspects I listed are not improvements; I did at first. Combat, although no grid for precise positioning, is much more fun with individual heroes on the battlefield. Town building, though lack the graceful design of HoMM3, contains much "cleaner" building process with no creature upgrades. This IMHO is better than HoMM5 or 6.

I Love HOMM4 But miss the Hungarian language option a lot. It's my favourite game ever made by far, and a beautiful Hungarian translation to the texts, voices and everything else does exist. (It's not fan-made, it's an official (professionally made) hungarian release of the game.) Please include this language. I think it's fair to say, that I'm asking this on behalf of the still living and breathing hungarian homm4 community

На мой субъективный взгляд одна из лучших игр в этой серии. Познакомился с ней во времена когда 5 часть уже существовала, но не была доступна в полной мере из-за технических ограничений. Тогда я обратил свой взор на эту игру и она стала свежим глотком воздуха. Даже сейчас по прошествию многих лет очень приятно вернуться и поиграть в неё. Ввиду того, что существует русская локализация, очень хотелось бы видеть её и на этой площадке. RUSSIAN LANGUAGE, PLEASE!

While Heroes 3 is clearly the best, Heroes of Might and Magic 4 remains to this day to be my favourite. It has the greatest soundtrack of the whole series. While some don't like the art style, I find it quite beautiful in the 2.5D format, though I can understand why people prefer the fairy tale book aesthetic of HOMM2 or watercolour paintings of HOMM3. This also includes the two expansions which I never had the opportunity to play before back in the CD days. I like how the factions are themed on philosophy instead of simply geography, Life, Order, Nature, Chaos, Death and Might. I also like how hereos can participate in battle and become absolute demigods, especially in the campaigns. I also like how the spellschools are more specific to each faction that really highlight their themes (read the spell descriptions, they really encapsulate the respective factions well). The campaigns in the original really stand out to me as they all read like classic pulp fantasy novels. I can't speak for the expansion campaigns. It is truly remarkable for all the game's faults it came out as well as it did as did considering 3D0 and New World Computing went under so shortly after it's release. The way I describe this game is like my love of mint chocolate chip ice cream. While I won't always go for it, it is my favourite ice cream flavour that floods me with nostalgia of my childhood. This game for me is mint chip, in PC game form. I love it to pieces.

Me and my brothers (I have 6) hook up every year and play this in a big old lan party. Its a bit of a family tradition and everyone gets involved eager to see who comes out on top this year. Being an older gamer my reactions are not great but this is a lot of fun. Maybe not a new fangled 3d game but five stars from me!
