Great game wasted with a joke difficulty

The graphisms, the gameplay and the humour is great. The only thing bugging me with that game is the difficulty curve. There's none. The campaign is way too easy. So you play skirmish because you want more. But then normal is still too easy. And everything above just buff the enemies, wich made you fight damage sponges. It's bad design, so either you just steamroll everything in your way, or you just get raided before having the time to make your firsts traps. It's really annoying because I was starving for more dongeons 2.

It's okay

It's some sort of strategy game and dungeon builder with two layers of gameplay: Managing your dungeon and clean sweeping the overworld of nasty heroes and adventurers. Balancing these layers is the key here. Having your units in the underground producing things or sending them out fighting. The difficulty remains very low for most of the campaign. It's a little bit more challenging if you play with friends. The DLC significantly ramps up the challenge. Still it's pretty basic compared to other strategy games. The main selling point is probably the humor. A narrator guides you through missions, frequently commenting on your actions and providing story context. Much of the humor relies on parody, referencing popular franchises like The Lord of the Rings and Game of Thrones. Sometimes the jokes hit the mark and add charm to the experience; other times they feel a bit overdone. Still it did a pretty good job in telling a story, where you play as the evil beeing. Sometimes it was so bland, that i did not even remember the narrative anymore, even after i played some months ago. Like the jokes, it often seems as if elements have been borrowed from various other games. Warcraft, Dungeon Keeper, etc.. And that's why it doesn't really stand out in the genre. The Winther DLC is good though. You play as Arthas ... i mean Barthas as he joined the Legion of the Undead and fight against the remaining living Heroes he once accompanied. Kinda sounded familiar... anyway. Despite some people hated it, i really liked the difficulty here. I would probably enjoyed it even more, if the base game was a little bit harder.

Unplayable

Ran into a common issue, Game launchs but nothing happens when you click on any of the options to try and start a game. Tried a number of the work arounds online but none worked so uninstalled. Got it for free so not to worried but if I had paid for this would be unhappy. As it is currently unplayable feel it is important to warn people this may happen and will have to give lowest possible score. If developers provide an update to fix the issue will consider updating,

I can't believe Kalypso can publish this

Kalypso studio, publisher of Tropico games. Do they always publish worthy games? NO. In this case we have failed attempt to create successor to Dungeon Keeper. Developers used Unity engine to deliver this game and it shows. Awful controls, complete inability of developers to create simple interactions with your units. In addition your units are so stupid that will disregard your command to move away and will die in battle. You research spells but they do almost no damage and clicking on spell icon usually does not work. after you click it 4-5 times maybe it will fire, or maybe not. Sending your troops outside is the most infuriating task. You have to grab every critter, drag it to the cave exit, hold it over exit so it will get highlighted, drop your unit and it will appear outside (on the ground map) and you will be switched from cave view. click on your cave map to return to it, grab next unit... oh wait, the first unit already died because of the attack of human patrols. How someone can create such lame game? How developers would expect people to enjoy such controls in RTS game? I give it 2 out of 5 only for an attempt to create dungeon game. But we have to be honest here, this game is a big let down. There's not a single sane RTS/RPG/Action game created in crippled Unity because of its bad controls. When developers pick Unity for their new game they already have to be aware what kind of turd they're going to create.

Your chance to be the Evil Guy

An ordinary tavern in an ordinary village. Around a table, there sit a dwarf fighter, a bard, a mage... And their existence alone annoys you, the Lord of the Dungeon. You start by defending your dungeon in tower defense style. You build traps, you prepare your army to deal with the intruders. And you take care about your wounded. And you pay your army. And you satisfy their need for beer. Tower defense! Dungeon building! Economy management! Magic! And then, when you're strong enough, you go to see the outside world (in Warcraft 3 style), to spread evil (which is good now), to deal with heroes, to conquer the ruins. All while the narrator throws witty jokes in your general direction. The story is catchy and enjoyable. All 3 evil races (DLC sold separately, I think) give you unique playstyles, You feel good as darkness spreads over green grass and blue streams. The game is unique mix of different genres, and while the play-through can be sometimes frustrating (some micromanagement included and the hand cursor is not targeting well), if you're a story gamer, you will most probably enjoy this one. Replay-ability is low to medium, though, as the story is perfectly linear and the game shows you really everything during your first take.
