It's not very good.
DISCLAIMER: This is a review of the steam copy of the game. The original dungeons was a cheap con that used hype and dumb critics to pretend we were getting a new dungeon keeper (I fell for it). It was in fact nothing of the sort, and about 90% of fans were dissapointed. This one is trying to make up for that. It really is trying to be a successor to DK, while trying to bring in some new ideas. It doesn't manage it. Firstly the game is zoomed in too much, and the dungeon too small. You never really get a feel for your dungeon, and there isn't really much to your dungeon. The traps aren't bad, they do manage to allow some strategy, but you'll place 3 or 4 in a row, then you're about done. The spells are rubbish, you cast lightning on bards so that your traps don't get disarmed, apart from that, just not worth it. The main problem are the minions. You only get a few, and that really hampers the construction of your dungeon. At the end of the day, a dungeon with a maximum (early missions are about 5 - 8 warriors) of 20 creatures, you really are unable to create any kind of individuality, or even strategy. The game is just a tedious walkthrough of getting each new creature and using it. The humours cringe worthy, the plot tedious, and the cultural references are clumsy and also unfunny. Finally, for me at least, the game ran HOT! My CPU was cooking at 80 degrees after a few hours. They've tried, so they get 2 stars, but at the end of the day, there's nothing actually fun about this game. It's as though they've taken everything we liked about DK and DK2, and kind of done it worse. The overworld was a nice idea, but was ultimately not a huge improvement, as it just divided the game, so that you couldn't focus on your dungeon (which is what we actually want to do).
