Super fun and addictive

Mostly played on Switch, but bought on GoG to support the no-DRM releases, it's one of the best game of the genre. It's fun, fast, easy to grasp but hard to master. Don't worry if you're redoing "routes* often, that's the thing with Dead cells and it's actually a super clever design. As you'll progress, more and more area will be available, and new routes will unlock but along the way, you're knowledge about enemies will increase and as such, progressing feels smooth and rerun is rewarding! Highly recommended. Playing with a controller is actually super cool as well.

Simply AMAZING!

This is becoming my favorite game ever! The gameplay is so fun and the combat is so satisfying. It's not just any kind of roguelike, it's an near perfect implementation of the genre. The progression is really well made, and alongside the variability of the weapons, builds, level designs and enemies, it's the reason behind the absence of repetitiveness in the playthoughts. It's the kind of game that you can play for 15 minutes or 5 hours straight and have a very good time in both cases. The metroidvania aspects of it blends wonderfully in the game recipe, turning it into a unique experience. The soundtrack is a delight even if you listen to it many times when you die a lot. The graphics are beautiful and there is plenty of character customization. The DLCs are much enjoyable and the collaboration with other games brings many cool things inside it's world. I love playing with other games weapons like the "sting" from Hollow Knight, finding altars with references to other games that give me fun items, and being able to use Shovel Knight's or Santa Claus's skins. It's a masterpiece that I'm glad I got DRM-free and will be able to carry with me forever.

The best metroidvania I ever played

Dead Cells is an amazing metroidvania that is fast paced and skill based. There are tons of unlockable gears and a good variety of levels to keep things fresh even after dozens of hours. I love it when games give players the option to customize various aspects of the game and Dead Cells is one of those few games that let you do just that. While the normal game is very difficult at higher difficulties, most average gamers should be able to beat the hardest difficulty and unlock all gears thanks to all the ways to customize the game. My only gripe is that due to a bug, I am unable to obtain 3 blueprints that require doing daily challenges. This is an issue that many players are experiencing (it's not limited to linux). I had the game for over a month and I still have not been able to start a single daily challenge. At this point, I'm not sure the devs will address this issue.

Definitive way to play the game

With Dead Cells final updates included with this DLC bundle this is the definitive way to play all the content created for the game. One of my all time favorites!

Hard in the best way

I don't like difficult, punishing games. However, I love Symphony of the Night and finally pulled the trigger when I saw the crossover DLC. I should have played sooner. Humor is great, references to other metroidvanias are great, my only complaint is they have so many tools some are amazing and others disappointing to use. There are clear winners and losers in equipment, but that game knowledge (what works best for me) is the skill aspect that keeps me going back, even on harder difficulties. I am sad they are no longer updating the game. I would have liked a few more features (e.g. dual bind the weapons to one button outside of custom mode). My fault for not playing earlier. Thank you for such a fun game.
