Another DLC cash grab ...

"Base game" for free now? If you can even call it that. Of course they can do that easily because they want to lure you in. You are not getting a sattisfying game experience, not even a basic one that you can extend to. No. To get a complete full game experience you need to get the DLC's that complete the game. And they are not cheap. THAT's where they make the money. 254€ in total to get a full experience. Even on discount, like currently -60% off this amounts to still 102€. What a price for a game. This is not a AAA overhyped game title that you were waiting for to try out on day one. I'd say: wait for a big big big (huge) discount - 20 to 30€ might be more like it - or get it through "other" means if you must. Frankly, there is other games out there. you can very well do without this one. Your money might be spend better

Don't support this behaviour

Paradox makes incredible games but, unfortunately, also has one of the worse DLC policy in the gaming industry. They also make them desirable to buy, because the base game becomes lackluster, and frankly unplayable, if played without the infinite panoply of DLCs - it's a trap. Don't buy this, don't support this shit behaviour

Good game, but commercial practices

What can I say about CK2 that hasn't already been said? It's a great game with cool mechanics. It might not be 100% historically accurate, but it gets the job done for the most part. Where the game loses is in the commercial department. Nothing new there, but this needs to be repeated ad nauseum until things change, because such practices are predatory and unhealthy. Paradox, just like EA, is a scummy company that releases castrated games and then sells all the features that were supposed to be in place from day one as (overpriced) DLCs. The "base" version is now free, but the full game costs anywhere between 160$ and 260€ (depending on where you are), and it's way too much for what it is. So yeah, either ignore, or wait for a massive discount, or take to the salty seas.

Despicable Business Practices hinder an excellent Game

Yes, Paradox' business practices are as despicable as they are impertinent, charging for every little detail separately. Half a dozen packages would be o.k., but the sheer number of add-ons leads to a lot of downvotes. On the other hand, potential customers can judge for themselves whether what's on offer is worth the money. At the current 60% discount, the «Imperial Collection» that includes absolutely everything is a fair offer, because one cannot expect a manufacturer to support, work on and expand a product for half a decade without any kind of remuneration. Having bought the complete Europa Universalis IV at an 80% discount, using the included cross-converter expands both products' usability even further. The correct question to ask is not what a product costs in absolute terms, but in relation to the hours of gameplay («quantity of joy») you get out of it, and whether those hours were a grind or a challenging and rewarding experience («quality of joy»). In these departments you will not be disappointed, quite the contrary: in all likelihood, Crusader Kings II will provide you with more hours of fun per Dollar then most of the mediocre and garbage games you bought here on GoG, let alone what we all wasted on underwhelming products in other walks of life, from lousy restaurants to lousy dating, books, movies and so on. For the current $38 USD, there is no reason to hesitate, in order for the game to keep us busy until GoG finally brings us Crusader Kings III, which is the true king of grand strategy games.
