Post-Apocolyptic SteamPunk meets Redwall

After about 25 hours of gameplay and about 20% of the game completed, I feel I can give this game an honest review to combat all the undeserved negativity. This game is a beautiful open world action/adventure RPG that give you incredible freedom to play your character any way you want. Other than the first 1-1.5 hours of the tutorial, the game essentially lets you chart your own path. While the story is something that has been seen and done before, it is presented in a unique way in the form of the Biomutants that inhabit the world. Giving an old cliche a new charm. The combat system is very enjoyable and fluid. From melee to ranged to "magic" attacks all meshed together if you choose. Or you can focus on only 1 or 2. The choice is yours. It is presented by default in a sort of superhero style with words like BAM and SMACK and slow motion dodges and kill shots all rolled together. But these options can be turned off if you prefer an uninterrupted and more "serious" style. The sound and music are fantastic. The effects during fighting and the sounds of the environment really add to the feeling of the world. And the music helps you genuinely FEEL what is currently happening on screen. Many reviews complain about the narrator or that the game isn't voice acted. While true, the other mutants don't speak a known language, they are voice acted differently in their language of Gibberish. As for the narrator, the options menu allows you to chose the frequency with which he speaks. The gameplay itself is nothing revolutionary, hence the 4 stars. The quests are the typical type you would find an open world RPG style game. Fetch, kill, explore, find etc. They all make sense in the world and are quite charming when it comes to how the character explain Old World concepts like TVs, phones, washing machines and the like. Exploration is where the game shines. The world and it's different biomes are fun to roam and give a fresh unique take on tried and true RPG concepts.

STALKER in a lush apocalypse

Humanity destroyed the world, and the animals inherited it, after going bipedal/evolving opposable thumbs. Make your own furry mutant, pick your class, craft your weapons and forge your own kung-fu fable. The game is an open-world action RPG that tries to do everything, and so doesn't do anything exceptionally well. You've got basic combat, melee/ranged with multiple weapon types, each with their own weapon skills and combos you can pull by dodging, jumping and attacking in correct sequences; you also got your Mutations that you can unlock with mutation points, and our psychic/chi abilities that require different points- and also some are locked to a Light or Dark moral alignment, which depends on your choices (or whether you kill or pet the collectable critters your catch in your buttrfly-catching net). There's also 6 tribes you can ally yourself with; you valley is surrounded by mountains, and sustained by The Tree of Life- but it's being devoured by 4 World Eater monsters. Some tribes want you to save the Tree, others want you to let it die, because that aligns with their philosphy; There are NPCs who will send you on various fetch quests, and they ALSO kinda care about your alignment for different reasons- there's A LOT to unpack here, and it's all presented in a chaotic mess and a jumble of systems that's terrible, and yet engrossing in a way only Euro-jank games can be. The open world is gorgeous, and the art direction when it comes to enemy design is best describes as "plushies with rabies"- they're all adorable, but also deadly. Combat is fun once you level up a few times, unlock some abilities and then craft yourself some insane weapon or armor- it's an RPG. Loads of people complained about the world being "empty", but I felt that having most enemies be around notable landmarks, and not just out and about was more approrpiate. Overall, despite many of its systems not being fleshed out well, the game's enjoyable. Not most polished, but a ton of fun.

I love it

There's really not much more I can say about it. I was pleasantly surprised after catching it on sale. I've been watching it since almost day one of its announcement back in 2016-2017 then was disappointed after reading reviews. I waited until it went on sale before purchasing, but now I'm enjoying the experience! It's one of my favorite games of recent years next to Doom Eternal.

2021..so much games.. this is special

In my humble opinion this is super cute relaxing and a meditative piece of art. And even a lot of people dislike the narrator, okay.. understand, but I like this a lot and is just atmospheric if you are okay with a granpa- cricket- sensei- voice ^^ talks in background and comments... Its just ! fun.. nothing extreme. All the other guys here with five stars like the Fuchur- rider :)P said already all the other good arguments why this game is just admirable and enchanting... Maybe for a lot of people its to easy, no challenge whatsoever... But specially in those gray Winter- Corona- days I think its important to put some summer- vibes in mind.. this one does it exactly for me. And I love my purple reindeer ^^

Blind review, truly excellent

I saw this game a few years ago and after a few minutes of research knew exactly what I was going to get. I bought this a few weeks after release without hearing about reviews, or at least never reading them only getting wind it was apparently bad. Honestly, they could not be more wrong. First off: Experiment 101 is made of the same core people who developed Just Cause 2 which we all know is innovative in mechanics and still has a strong pallete to this day. A LOT of the design nuances are reflected in Biomutant. 1: The game looks gorgeous, and runs beautifully even on hardware below minimum requirements. It actually makes use of the engine to its fullest and stylizes it in the process. 2: The gameplay is solid and uses actual action mechanics and isn't some crappy hitstate "hit or no hit" action game - there's some hitbox play at work here and they have good gamefeel, which is something western games lack entirely often. 3: Beautiful animations and crafting that scales well into NG+ with entertaining combinations. This game is like playing Fallout 4 or Borderlands for the story - you're doing it wrong if you're doing so. The world is its atmosphere and the huge swathes of unique environments you will enter upon doing so. Furthermore it's received numerous patches and updates that are only continuing to mount up in increasing its longevity and overall gameplay. The devs care and this isn't some disaster like some other games that people seem to make it out to be. For every dollar most generic AAA titles spend on token voice actors and overdone cutscenes, Biomutant spends five times as much on making an actual game.
