I don't get it

I bought this game, because it got so many 5 star reviews, "best game ever", "overlooked classic", etc. Just played into it and I don't see it. Its not even mediocre and a far shot to "best game ever". The controls are awkward... very awkward. I get it, it is made for the console, but this sells the PC version and it really makes no sense for example select menu items with the keyboard and then have to confirm with the left mouse button. wtf?! Everything is super glitchy and flickering to me. I get an headache after a few minutes and the setting and story as I get it feels like being thrown into a 1970s Japanese action cartoon. This is NOT an adventure game like one of the top reviews says. I don't know what exactly it is. My lesson, don't trust GOG reviews on some games, the site has some major issues with positive fake reviews it seems.

An ambitious but flawed game

Interesting characters and character design, and an over-arcing story that makes sense in the context of the protagonist. Voice acting is solid, movement and combat are reasonably fluid. Unfortunately, despite having more strong points than weaknesses, due to the constant graphics glitches around the HUD, and the developers decision to have the camera angle change randomly during certain combat and moving/jumping sequences, I couldn't recommend buying this game even at the $2.49 sale price I paid for it.

A Timeless Classic

I first got to play this game only a few years ago and yet it has affected me more than most other games I've played in the past decade, and I've played a lot of games. From the characters to the combat, this game manages to impress and is an absolute joy to play through. Unfortunately it ends on a terrible cliffhanger and much of the story remains underdeveloped due to the absence of any sequels, leaving the players with many unanswered questions at the end, questions that will probably never get answered. The game was very ambitious for its time, and this is reflected in the variety of gameplay activities present throughout the game world, although because of this some are more refined than others. Regardless, it is in my opinion a must-play for every action-adventure fan and perhaps any gamer looking for something a bit different. Strongly recommended.

Don't miss out on this one!

This is an amazing, underrated game. I must have played this one a dozen times over if not more. Great graphics, music, sound, stroyline, combat, sidequests, minigames, the list goes on! If there is one game I would recommend getting it's this one!

Something I missed on GameCube

I was a proud owner of a purple lunchbox back in high school, and yet somehow I always passed over this whenever I saw it at the local pawn shop. After seeing it here, I decided to give it a go. Well, I was pleasantly surprised. Beyond Good and Evil is a nice action-adventure game with elements of Starfox Adventures, Pokemon Snap, and Legend of Zelda. You control an intrepid photojournalist who, after her home planet is attacked by aliens, joins the resistance and ultimately finds herself fighting not only against the aliens but also her erstwhile protectors. The humor is kooky at times, the action quite fast paced (if at times repetetive), and the puzzles generally fun. The only shortcomings I saw were that the game is rather short, something in the ten-hours range, and the planet outside what you can initially access is rather empty. Overall, however, it's definitely worth a buy, especially on sale.
