ARMA: Cold War Assault

Until its "spiritual sequel," ARMA, this game (then called "Operation Flashpoint") had a permanent place on my hard drive for years. I played it multiplayer. I played it single-player. I made missions. I downloaded missions. I would say things like, "Battlefield What?" It's (somewhat) realistic, unlike a lot of other first-person warfare games. A single well-placed (or highly explosive) shot can kill you instantly. While it's possible (in the right scenarios) to brute force / Rambo your way through, the game generally requires careful tactics, keeping your eyes open, and coordinating with your team (human or AI). And knowing when to duck, find cover, and run.

Always wanted to try an arma game and saw this one for 6 bucks. later found out it was a re release of Operation flashpoint but didn't take nothing away. this game is quite amazing i'd have to say i just love that grungy difficult hard unforgiving feeling in a video game! this game works flawlessy in wine as well so i was really happy about that (really didn't want to get on my brothers PC to play this one!) take care guys and good game!

The campaign is awesome, the editor is the perfect sandbox and the absolute best mode is MFCTI (a mod/custom multiplayer mission) you have to download and play with your friends over LAN. It allows you to turn the game into a real-time match over a whole island with one commander per side, who builds a base and plays the game like a strategy game, while his teammates and AI are the squad leaders who capture towns and hopefully destroy the enemy base in the end. Been playing this since over 15 years and can't stop, won't stop. Have fun with this absolute gem of a game and enjoy the atmosphere it still creates after over 20 years. Dismissed.

I probably spent more hours playing & replaying this game (with the expansions) than any other PC game, with the exception of the Combat Mission series. It's one of the few PC game CD's I still actually own. The graphics still look decent, even by today's standards. It's well worth the GOG price.

it works on linux and on windows 10. Game is still fun, same as more than 20 years ago.
