RISING TENSION
Immerse yourself in the multiple ways of tackling survival. In the shoes of the French soldier Henri Clément, you are armed with a revolver gun, a noisy dynamo flashlight, and other scarce supplies to scavenge and craft along the way. With randomization and unpredictable behavior, no play-through is the same.
Hunted by an ever-present threat reacting to your every move and sound, you must adapt your play-style to face hell. Every decision will change the outcome of how the game responds. Actions bear consequences.
ESCAPING THE NIGHTMARE
Solve things your own way in a semi-open world. You must explore and experiment to make your way out. Figure out what’s going on down here - what has happened to the other soldiers? Where have all the officers gone? What diabolical nightmare lurks underneath this hellscape? Unravel the mysteries of the Bunker and get to know the nooks and crannies of this cruel sandbox to up your odds of survival.

It's just you and the monster in the tunnels and small rooms of the bunker. As usual for an Amnesia game, you wake up alone, something horrific happened to the inhabitants of the bunker, and you remember nothing. Take your noisy rechargeable flaslight and your revolver that you never seem to have enough bullets for, and see how far you get before the monster bites your face off.
In Penumbra, you're solving puzzles in an underground lab. In Dark Descent, you're learning about horrific torture methods while exploring a mysterious mansion. In both, unfortunately, you're running away from monsters and getting spooked from pretty good jump scares.
Amnesia the Bunker is in a league of its own for numerous reasons:
- In Amnesia the Bunker, you get to manage generator fuel so the monster isn't constantly lurking around.
- You have a NOISY flashlight, which was a fantastic idea and makes even good visibility a risky endeavor.
- You have to juggle inventory items and store them in a box like in oldschool Resident Evil games.
- You get to explore the whole area in a very metroidvania fashion (get lighter to get wrench, get wrench to... etc).
- You can spook off the monster for a short time with weapons and jury rigged devices like in Alien Isolation. These monster encounters are UNSCRIPTED except for a couple times, so if you make too much noise or leave the generator off, you're in for trouble.
- There's a ton of different difficulty modes and numerous custom difficulty settings to tweak on your second playthrough. Couple that with randomized locker codes and item placement, and you have a short game with an fantastic amount of replayability.
- The graphics isn't too demanding, but looks really good. Its scaling resolution option can make it playable on super old PCs or squeeze a ton of power from high-end GPUs. Also didn't crash once, so it's really stable too.
This is horror at its absolute finest and my favorite game by Frictional yet. It's a must buy for fans of Horror games.
The Bunker was an deviation from the usual Amnesia experience, but it told an ok story with fresh new gameplay mechanics that worked fine. I just think that Rebirth was the peak of this franchise and compared to that, this was just desent experience. Still worth a playthrough though.
