If you like Metroidvania and on top of that Fairy Tale like experience from it with great storyline this is perfect game for you.
On top of that it implements great game mechanics with two hand wielding similar to what you find in Skyrim, but not just that it also offer passive type skills that can have effect not just passive or on stats, but also on active wielding and some extras are present which I will not spoil for you.
Works great on Linux , great performance and overall 10/10
I found this game to be a good game. Good music, good graphics (for its style), responsive controls, etc. I found the story line interesting. A great job by a small team with kickstarter funding. If there is ever a sequel, I would want to play it.
You can level your weapons. As your weapons gain levels, their attack power increases, and so does the damage of linked spells. Different orbs have different ranges, different attack areas, and different attack speeds. Some come with special effects like striking 2 or more times, or bypassing shields. As you gain orbs, you will have to get special jewelry crafted for you to gain spells and passive abilities. Necklaces give you spells, ranging from a charged energy shot, a swing from a giant magical sword, or a shotgun energy blast. Rings cover passive abilities, such as using mana to make your attacks stronger, drain enemy health to heal yourself, or spot hidden passageways. Later in the game, you can have multiple sets of jewelry that you can swap with the push of a button.
This game does have some drawbacks. This game offers you the power to freeze time, allowing you to use enemies as platforms to get to hard to reach areas, or dodge enemy attacks. However, this isn't required for puzzle solving most of the game, so you'd be forgiven if you forgot that you could freeze time at the later stages. It happened to me. The game also has a shortage of time periods you can be in. Its just the present time and a 1000 years earlier (and a secret area). Even with 2 time periods, there isn't a whole lot you can do in the past to change the future. You can burn vines in the past so they don't block your way in the future, but there is not much else beyond that. Most of changing the past is beating something up to advance the plot.
My biggest demands of a metroidvania (or really any platformer) are satisfying controls and a game world worth using them in. Timespinner delivers this in spades without overstaying its welcome and providing an alternative to the myriad of genre titles striving to recreate Darksouls in 2D.
The sample playtime isn't undershooting; this is not a long game by practically any metric. For players not gifted with an overabundance of free time, entries like Timespinner are a godsend. Finding punishgly difficult and sprawling titles in the genre wasn't a challenge when this game was initially released, and it certainly isn't now. What the player is given to engage with in the condensed package provided feels particularly refreshing and ultimately satisfying in its difference.
Overall I really enjoyed the game. Could have have been a little tougher on the normal difficulty but the game has a good pace. Towards the end it seems like it starts running out of steam and the time jumping is mostly a gimmick but the pixel art and music really gives it it's own charm.
This game is waiting for a review. Take the first shot!
