Opis
Like all good nightmares, Philip's begins with something all too real - his mother's death. The days following the funeral are characterized by nothing, save for an incessant feeling of abandonment. Until, that is, he receives a letter from a dead man. Philip's father left before he was born, taking his reasons with him. Now, here he is, opening up the door from beyond the grave. That door leads to more questions, and those questions lead to Greenland. Philip follows the clues - they're all he has left. On leaving the final signs of human civilization behind him, in search of the location mentioned in his father's ambiguous notes, Philip wonders if he's left some part of his humanity behind as well. Soon, that will be the least of his fears.

Just finished the first game, looking forward to the second. Y'all are crazy with these bad reviews. Amazing atmosphere, perfectly reasonable and logical puzzles, having to backtrack through an area you're terrified of getting through is part of the deal. If you're not terrified and are annoyed by the combat, you chickened out and played it on Normal when you should have played it on Hard- on Hard it's not even worth trying to fight, you will die.
I paid about $2.50 for this, and I feel ripped off. The only thing that scared me about this game was how bad the interface was. Trying to do something as simple as break a crate is an exercise in frustration, as the actions don't map well to mouse movement. Only get this if you have the patience to master the bizarre control scheme.
This is the first first-person Horror game I've ever played, and the first game I've ever played with mouselook, but even without that, I think it's safe to say that it's still a little awkward, especially when it comes to combat. It seemed a bit like my hands were made of rubber noodles, and everything I held flopped around in the air like a dying fish. It was worth it, though, because it caused some pretty hilarious calamities to befall me; Wile E. Coyote would be proud. This doesn't matter as much as you'd think, however, because running past an enemy is almost always an option. An old battleaxe like me doesn't usually back down from a fight, so I don't generally do well at Horror when combat is present, but I did just fine here.
The horror aspect is what really matters in a game like this, and it certainly delivers; it all takes place in a creepy underground mine, and you don't know what you're going to find down there. Of course, it doesn't take all that long to find out, but the game is still really good at keeping the tension alive. Sure, you have a good view of the monster, but going up against some unspeakable horror as a normal dude armed with only a claw hammer is pretty hardcore; not something you really want to do if you can avoid it. There's also a pervasive voice that you're never really sure whether it's an ally or an enemy. Puzzles seem like they wouldn't fit into something like this, and yet, they're implemented in very natural ways. The horror never really gives way to anything else, but that's because the game doesn't really end properly. Of course, the sequel is a direct continuation, so it was meant that way. It's a little rough around the edges, but great for newcomers and long-time Horror fans alike!
...and boy was I in for a ride! I didn't read much about this game, I only knew that it was a horror game in the likes of Amnesia. It seems like Amnesia was the successor to these games, because they feel completely alike. While the first game of the series is rather boring, the second game really shines. I haven't played the third game yet, but I will finish this trilogy. NORMALLY I'm way too scared of horror games (Couldn't finish Amnesia, lol), but this game drew me in while still being scary.
The games themselves are not really long (around 4-6 hours long). The puzzles are quite logical for the most part (some you just can't figure out without a walkthrough, but I guess that's ok). I already got out my moneys worth and I'm looking forward to part 3!
This game is waiting for a review. Take the first shot!
