You play as the titular Bard, a roguish, manipulative and lewd songster whose priorities in life are the acquisition of material wealth and carnal pleasures. The Bard's pretty sarcastic by nature, but you get to decide just how scathing he is by selecting 'Nice' or 'Sarky' responses. Watch out you don't get too cocky though; folk you've upset may come back to haunt you.
During his raucous adventures, the Bard recruits a motley band of eccentrics and misfits to help in his ignoble cause. Enemies can be defeated using traditional or magical weapons and you can also use the Bard's dulcet tones to summon creatures. If you're tired of saving humankind or bored of games that take themselves a bit too seriously, The Bard's Tale could very well be for you.

While there is a fair bit of "action" game-play, as the series progresses the action quickly becomes boring while the "humor" drools. The humor declared as satire ends up becoming a predictable derogatory depiction of an uninteresting near do well and persons who are standard to a medieval fantasy setting. A fantasy setting full of the endless antagonistic hoards to provide leveling opportunities through stilted hack and slash. The dialog often feels stolen from a cheap bodice ripping novel and situations too frequently present the main character with an opportunity to act like a cross between a frat boy and an aging pick up artist. The "charm" of the main character should appeal to adolescents who lack the capacity to hold complex conversations of a historical or mature subject.
The Bard's tale has been, with no doubt, one of my favourite games. I enjoyed a lot and learned a lot of English too!!! Very addictive and with a great sense of humour. Unlike other games, I could finish this game in the hard mode without cheating at all. When will the second part appear?
I actually really enjoyed the dialogue, narrator and quality voice acting in the short amount of time i played (under 3 hours), but the gameplay/combat was deadly dull, repetitive and not personally worth it to continue unfortunately, I've never been a fan of any action RPG however so many others may find the combat OK/good.
Shame.
I'll probably just watch the ending/story snippets on youtube.
At last it was fun on the PS2. I never played the PC version.
Why do i remember playing this game?
Its not because of his epic story. Or its fantastic RPG fighting
system, or the graphics....
First there is this narrator. Its one of the best. Than the fact that every character in this game is a snarky bast***
You missed one of the funniest games ever if you haven't
played this one.
For the original 3 (real RPG's).
They are classics.
But i wouldn't play them again....the game is so outdated
it hurts
