You play as the titular Bard, a roguish, manipulative and lewd songster whose priorities in life are the acquisition of material wealth and carnal pleasures. The Bard's pretty sarcastic by nature, but you get to decide just how scathing he is by selecting 'Nice' or 'Sarky' responses. Watch out you don't get too cocky though; folk you've upset may come back to haunt you.
During his raucous adventures, the Bard recruits a motley band of eccentrics and misfits to help in his ignoble cause. Enemies can be defeated using traditional or magical weapons and you can also use the Bard's dulcet tones to summon creatures. If you're tired of saving humankind or bored of games that take themselves a bit too seriously, The Bard's Tale could very well be for you.

i played the newer bards tale on playstation 2, and found it to be an awsome game! then i tried to buy it on direct 2 drive before they went under(and took my games with them too) but it wasn't win 7 compatible! i don't know how Gog managed to do it, but it is deffinetly worth the price!
plus, you get the classic bards tale games! to be honest, i will probblay buy this and play the newer one for a grand total of 1 minute, before moving on to what i really want to play, the originals! i have waited so long for wizardry, bards tale, stuff like that to come to gog, and now its finally here! YES!
Buying this game is actually all about the three classic titles included. I'm not very much into "funny" games, especially not RPGs, but the old honeys which come as an extra in this pack are worth their bucks all the time. Of course, as in several other RPGs of this time, you'll have to copy your saves every time - because a death is a death ...
The game itself is one of my absolute favorites, I played it through more than once since I bought it some years ago. But on recent Linux systems graphics rendering errors spoil the whole fun: A huge black 'shadow' cast by the bard extending towards the lower right. And this happens both with integrated (Intel) and dedicated (nvidia) graphics cards. (This is the same hardware I had been playing it on before).
So make sure it works on your system. If it does, it's worth every single cent :)
A satirical look at the entire genre behind "The Bard's Tale" and other similar games and lore! Game will have you laughing out loud, often! This title is not to be confused with the "serious" game entitled "The Bard's Tale"--this is not that game, but you can enjoy this game on its own merit entirely! It really is very well done! It's also an authentic satire because it's a game developed by inXile, whose principal, Brian Fargo, brought us the real Bard's Tale, so long ago! And now inXile is also bringing us all of the "serious" Bard's Tale games remastered for the 21st century! This one needs to be in your collection alongside the others!
I had a lot of fun playing this. The main character is kinda endearing, the attempts at humour are tolerable. The storyline is wacky, but really fun.
The combat system worked for me, kind of Hack & Slash mixed with RPG, and some of the mid-game fights and bosses were a good challenge, even with your NPC allies.
The story will remain the same, but there is replayability there, as there are many options on how to fight. I chose to be mainly archer and one handed weapons fighter, which worked very well.
The old games didn't work on my system, they ran way too fast. was always in a fight every 3 seconds.
Try this one out when on sale, you shouldn't regret it.
