where do i start ... i guess right at the beginning ... well, that is what i actually did. i remember having played this game couple of years ago and after i finished it, i thought: well ... not bad, but not quite on par with the first games. so i started a little experiment and i played all 5 parts in chronological order.
what surprised me, is that i liked this part the most. yeah, the controls are kinda tricky but other than that ...
i am actually a very lazy player. i look up a walk-through the first minute i get stuck. but not with this game. i kinda enjoyed getting stuck. i was patient enough to quit the game when i didn't know what to do and trusted the game that it won't fail me with unfair puzzles. and it didn't. loved every second of it.
my personal ranking now? 5, 3, 2, 1, 4
to see Monkey Island in so bad shape. While puzzles are ok-ish (not very original). controls graphics and writing is really underwhelming. It's like a very poor ripoff of the mighty 1 to 3 games. Especially the graphics and animations are soo crappy that I can hardly stand it. The trademark humor has transformed from very smart to explainatory.
Don't ruin your old memories of REALLY good games with that... #!stuff.
This is Telltale's entry in the Monkey Island series, and I found it pretty enjoyable. The game is split into 5 chapters, and if you're a fan of Monkey Island, point and click adventures and Telltale's approach to storytelling, then you'll like it. There's a lot of humour in the game, and Telltale have captured the essence of Monkey Island pretty well. Would recommend.
Longing for more classical Monkey Island fun? This one is a worthy successor. And despite not being produced by LucasArts, everyone is there, including all the voice actors, the wit and the jokes. ... and Murray! MUHAHAHAHAHA!
Monkey Island 2 was the first game I ever bought with my own money. I tremendously enjoyed it back then. Same with 1 oder 3 to a slightly lesser degree. 4 and Return disappointed me personally. This one ... for me it is a satisfying conclusion to the saga, although not all puzzles make sense and I usually prefer 2D over 3D adventures. The stakes are quite high, there are some intriguing locations and I liked most of the characters (Morgan especially). It is not a legendary point and click, but I vastly prefer it over Return.
This game is waiting for a review. Take the first shot!
