Underrated gem

Yes, we all know that episode games are bad and that no one makes games like LEC did. Still ... I had a very good time with this game, enjoyed it a lot more than I enjoyed Escape from Monkey Island. The humor fits, the puzzles are just right and the controls are quite ok for a 3d adventure. The story is a LOT better than it was in MI4. There are two bad things about this release and Telltale games in general. 1. EP1 came without LeChuck's original voice which was then used for later episodes. The DVD version of the game however DOES use his original voice. However, Telltale never bothered to update the online version of the game, so you have to keep your eyes open for a fan made patch which replaces Le Chucks voice. 2. DirectInput: Also, Telltale games from that time have a problem with Windows 10 if you have a Microsoft XBox 360 gamepad connected: They crash at start. The reason is that betwen Windows 8 and 10 the directinput.dll was changed, the Windows 10 version is not compatible to the game. Solution a: disconnect your gamepad Solution b: get a Windows 8 DirectInput-DLL and put it into the games directory. This would have an easy fix, but again, Telltale never bothered to update their games.

Attempt at a more serious Monkey island

This is the second Monkey Island game I ever played (Even though I barely remembered playing the first one at the time.) when I was younger and remembered waiting for each episode to come out and enjoying them quite a lot so I recently bought it on GOG now that I played and finished the first two games. While I still enjoyed it there were some problems I didn't notice the first time I played it. The game is still full of high quality humor, but it attempts to have a more emotionally charged story with actual stakes and character drama which comes off a bit jarring after playing the first two games which were primarily focused on the absurd comedy. Funnily enough I think the drama might work better if this is your first Monkey Island game. Gameplay is your classic point 'n' click puzzle solving with some unique little twists which I found fun for the most part. Had to look up a couple of solutions but that's standard affair for these games. Visuals are probably the weakest part of the game. A lot of reused character models, some low quality animations and a visual bug here and there. Still I found the general atmosphere great and the 3D look works well for this game. Big problems come in chapters 4 and 5 where there are game crashing bugs which require you to delete files in the installation folder to fix. While to me this was only a nuisance as the game autosaves often, it is defintely something that should be noted. Overall I still think there is enough Monkey Island here for the fans, and enough fun point 'n' click adventure for the rest.

Excellent Game!!

Tales is one of the best Monkey Island game. The story and tha graphics are awesome.

Leave it to Telltale

Not as great as the first three Monkey Island titles but to be fair, they did set the bar pretty high back then. This reboot of the series still makes for a very good and very funny point & click adventure in the series that adjusted well to modern times and out performs almost any other game in genre out there , not from Telltale, by a long shot.

worthy of the title

the game is funny, nice puzzles and the control system that lacked in MI4 i don't regret buying it, this one is a classic all on its own
