SWAT 4: Gold Edition

The game is pretty hardcore, if you go full rambo, you and your team mates get easily killed. Because of that patience is highly rewarded - but! Sometimes certain mechanics can switch into clunky mode (especially the AI) and you may end up dead in a kinda unfair way. Missions are usually short though, so - on paper - replaying one till you can master it for a satisfying completion shouldn't be too much of a trouble. By the way, I've heard the point system is not exactly reasonable, but trust me, in normal mode that doesn't give any trouble at all. Definitely check it out if you're interested in tactical shooters, there are lots of fun mechanics you can experiment with, and the random enemy/civilian placements can keep challenging you even if you already know the map like the palm of your hand.

An oldie which has aged well. Works fine on Win 11. Gameplay is tense, authentic, and unforgiving. One of the most unique FPS type games where tactics matter. Nearly 20 years since its release, it remains in many ways the ultimate SWAT experience for PC.

As someone who has no nostalgia for this game at all, as this is the first time i've ever played it, and only found this game because i was interested in Ready or Not and many were recommending this series, i gotta say it holds up pretty well today. The tactical gameplay and tension during every mission is just not something you get in most FPS games anymore. The fact that either you only have 1 shot, and that it shifts civilians/targets in every new attempt, the feel you get from it doesn't go away, even after playing it 10 times. So, despite not having a real story, it compensates in heavy atmosphere and immersion, an incredible sound design, high stakes shooting and some fucked up moments you'll remember well after finishing it. The only problem i encountered, is that the AI team sometimes just don't respond to your commands, getting stuck in doors or not shooting at all, even when the enemies open fire first. They'll sometimes get confused if you ask them to tie up two people at the same time for example. These problems resulted in the whole team getting shot down, or getting me shot down a few times. This is the reason i cannot give it 5 stars, as it is noticeable enough to become bothersome. Anyway, overrall it's a great experience and i'm glad i bought it. Recommended!

A fun, slow paced strategic FPS with controlled bursts of high intensity. THIS is a tactical shooter. Highly recommend. Don't let the age fool you.
