STAR WARS™: X-Wing Special Edition

Absolutely love seeing this and TIE Fighter again. Unfortunately, the 8-year-old version of me would be frustrated to know that 29-year-old version of me is still stuck on Tour of Duty 1, mission 1. Mon Mothma has given me that dang medal dozens of times, but I exit debriefing and Akbar is still barking about blowing up those same freighters. Maybe someone knows how to release me from my torpedo run purgatory.

I remember as a kid playing this game for hours on end with the keyboard controls and ever so carefully turning over my ball mouse in the neutral position so that it didn't get me stuck in a turn. This IMO is one of the games that made my childhood special... Back on that powermac 95. This is defiantly one I recommend for anyone of any age. The game play is simple, and quite addictive. When I was playing I was so bad at it that I would turn on god mode and sit in one spot waiting for the ties to come to me so I could blow them up. Ahh the memories.

Though it is no longer the greatest game among space sims, or even within its own series, X-wing still stands as the original perfect balance between atmosphere and gameplay. Players take on the role of a Rebel pilot, battling their way through the formative years of the Rebel Alliance, up to the Death Star battle and beyond. X-wings, A-wings, Y-wings, and later even the B-wing starfighter are all available to fly, with each vessel bringing its own variety and style of gameplay. Combat and flight in this series carries surprising smoothness and depth, with the management of your laser, shield, and engine energy adding a layer of strategy to mowing down TIE Fighters and taking on massive Star Destroyers. Beware, however - this is the only game in the series to feature permadeath in regards to your score, so watch your six out there!

Now GoG has the 1998 version! much better graphics!

I remember playing the floppy disk version on windows 3.1 with a joystick! The graphics don't hold up well today, but who cares! It is till a really fun game. Now i can play the complete version on my custom built pc with a steam controller. Farwell productivity...
