Star Control I & II

A real classic, I have enjoyed SC2 since it came out, but there is no point selling/purchasing it anymore, it's (Ur-Quan Masters) been a free open source game available on the net for years now.

Please!! someone tell me!! how do I enable the super melee mode????? the one with only ship battles...

Star Control 1 is a damned fun arcadey style game with a lot of style and humor. Star Control 2 includes the combat style of SC1, but makes the rest of the game into an epic adventure (which owes much to Starflight 1 and 2, ultimately better games). Overall, there's a ton of gameplay here for $6, so if you've never played these, now you have no excuse not to.

Yes. If you purchase this game, you will have fun. However, the free open-source remake, "The Ur-Quan Masters" is superior to the PC version of Star Control II in most respects. Voice acting, high quality sound, scaling, and many bug fixes, the game is definetely superior. Oh, except that it doesn't mention the Death March time limit because it's based on the 3DO version of the game. So, yes, its a good game, but save your $6 and get the Ur-Quan Masters instead. Just as good, and its free.

Let me say that this is easily one of the best games ever created. That said, this has been released as freeware for almost 10 years. I just want to emphasize the great job the open source team has done on this game. They have been making some improvements, fixing verious bugs and just making it the perfect creation it was meant to be. I would urge you to give them your support. Google the Ur-Quan Masters and check out the communities work on this legendary game.
