Star Control I & II

As another review wrote, the freeware version of SC2 is flawless. It is also hilarious. Some of the things the aliens say will have you ROFL. I had SC1 for my Genesis I think, advertised as the FIRST 10 meg cartridge. Seemed huge at the time. The game play was lacking though. Very little replayability. SC2 is one of those games I will play again every couple years.

First of all, I can't speak to SC1, so I'm not reviewing it at all, seeing as I never played anything but the melee mode. Star Control II. I don't even know where to begin. Should I start with the HUGENESS of the game? The difficulty (hard)? (Games are WAY too easy these days.) The immersion? The ambiance of exploring space, and never knowing what you're going to find? The combat? The story? I really have no idea, because every single one of those things pretty much blows every other PC game of that time out of the water, and possibly of our current time. I will STILL pull this game out and play it, almost all the way through, every year or so. I'm serious. Notice that GoG put this under the genres of action, strategy, and sci-fi. Honestly, there's parts of this game that fit under many genres. I see one of the top reviewers titled his review "My favorite game of all time". I do not feel critical of him making that claim. Some people say things like, "This is the fill-in-the-blank ever!", etc. etc., but don't really mean it. You can say this about this game and actually mean it. I'm not sure if it's *my* favorite game of all time, but then, I'm not really sure what is. This would definitely make the top three candidates, though. Seriously, get this game. Also, Google "The Ur-Quan Masters". The game was released as open source, so I'm not sure why GoG is even selling it.

I realise I'm not adding much to the reviews already here, but I couldn't help dropping in to place another 5-star review. Like many others, playing SC2 is my fondest computer game memory of all time. I hope that through UQM or this game on GOG that still more people can experience the wonder of exploration, tactical challenges and complete hilarity of this game. When I played this game I wrote to Toys for Bob and said how great it was, and they sent me a Jigsaw puzzle of the box art. I wish I had that now - with all the nostalgia value here I could sell it on eBay if I could bear to part with it. (But I do still have the original box cover after all these years.)

I want a Star Control 4 with all the great stuff from the Ur-Quan master.

Perfect "multiplayer" game from my young times.
