Great story and voiceacting, bad gameplay
A lot about this game is very engaging and keeps me wanting to play more, the story is interesting and the voice acting is really great. The visuals are good, but inappropriate for an RTS in my opinion. I find what's happening in the screen quite confusing and a lot of the time I'm legitimately wondering who's attacking me and where despite having the red marker. Maybe the graphics and environments should have been more simplistic so that it's easier to figure out what's going on. The worst aspect is, by far, the gameplay. The RTS part is indeed unique, but I can safely say after 14.5h that I still don't understand how it works. I'm not a veteran of the RTS genre by any means, my reference points being Warcraft III and Age of Empires II and, compared to those, it doesn't come even close in terms of playability and intuition. The RPG part is OK, but I can't say I care about it too much, there's games that do it much better, like Divinity: Original Sin 2. I understand they're trying to do a mix, but I don't see the point. It doesn't feel like the mix of these two genres brings any advantage over having one or the other. I still recommend this game, though, it's pretty good.
