Join the Freelance Police on a bizarre adventure from the North Pole to the Fountain of Youth, from outer space to Hell and back.
Sam & Max: Beyond Time and Space is a remastered version of Telltale’s second season of episodic Sam & Max games, lovingly updated by a small team of the original developers. Sam is a six-foot canine detective with a nose for justice. Max is a hyperkinetic rabbity-thing with a taste for mayhem. Together, they’re the Freelance Police—an irreverent comedy duo whose esoteric crime-fighting style has been entertaining comic book and video game fans for more than thirty years.
In this five-episode collection of interconnected cases, Sam & Max are back on the crime beat in a showdown with Santa Claus, a race to subdue a giant volcano, and a face-off with a Eurotrash vampire. And then things get even weirder.
Is paranoid shopkeeper Bosco on to something with his talk of a grand conspiracy? Is diner proprietress Stinky hiding the truth about what happened to her grandfather (also named Stinky)? Will flaky neighbor Sybil Pandemik ever find true love? Did someone say… BIRTHDAY?!
Hop into the DeSoto for a hilarious outing that won IGN’s Adventure Game of the Year award the first time around and now looks and sounds better than ever, with gorgeous HD graphics, overhauled lighting and lip-sync, finessed cinematography, remastered audio, and eight all-new musical tracks featuring live jazz musicians.
Zombies will dance. Mariachis will sing. A giant battle robot will trash the streets. And when their friends’ lives are on the line, Sam and Max will risk their very souls to set things right.
Features:
An adventure game that makes you laugh: Explore unexpected places, chat with eccentric characters, and tease out brain-tickling puzzles in an interactive story that has a joke hiding behind every hotspot.
Beautifully remastered: Lighting, lip-sync, cinematography, audio, music, and more have been updated and enhanced to bring Sam & Max’s second episodic season up to modern standards.
No walkthrough required: The game detects when you’re stuck and provides subtle contextual hints. Hint frequency can be customized to accommodate all playing styles.
Optional driving mini-games: Take the wheel of Sam & Max’s 1960 DeSoto convertible for fun diversions from the story. The hood decals and car upgrades you win carry over across episodes.
Localization: English voice with subtitles in English, French, Italian, German, and Spanish.
Original version included: This remastered version of Sam & Max: Beyond Time and Space comes with free access to the original episodes released in 2007–2008.

Gorgeous game. Well written, perhaps one of the best if not the best written game, the script is hilarious. The only remark I have is that it is a tad bit short, not too short but the more you play it the more you want to experience it.
Like the remaster of Season 1, this release replaces the original voice-actor for Bosco, because the developers (Skunkape Games) have a problem with the original voice-actor's skin color not being the same as the character he voices.
On the plus side, the developers claim that no lines were rewritten this time, though "longtime fans may notice some small changes due to the natural improvisation that happens during recording". Of course, they made this claim the last time as well, though since there do not yet seem to be any reports by fans of script rewrites, they may actually have been honest this time.
Simply put, if you've liked the Sam & Max games up to this point, this is right in line with the rest of them. It gets off to a bit of a rough start, but the end, I was still laughing so hard it hurt; I couldn't believe some of the jokes they were making. The scenery is still imaginative, and the plotlines are still enjoyably ludicrous. Some of the puzzles are bonkers, but the environments are still small, so they're not too bad.
What you get with this game: a modern milestone of the point-and-click genre that has ushered in an all too short lived new golden age of adventure games. Gone are the odd repetitions of Season 1, every episode has their own new places to explore and characters to meet. Season 2 has a much more pronounced story arc and ends on two very high notes. I was and still am sceptical about episodic gaming on the whole, but Sam and Max Season 2 has sold the entire concept to me.
What you get with the Remaster: everything you could wish for in a Remaster ever. New control options, re-framed scenes for a more immersive sense of place and a more P&C feel, new character models to fit in better with Steve Purcell's original sketches (they reinstated the keychain in Jurgen's nipple ring, watch out for that). New emotion animations, character outlines, higher resolution of environmental details, some recreated assets. A new lighting system gives each episode much more of an original mood. Re-choreographed cutscenes, an estimated 20 minutes of new, fully orchestrated music by the original composer. Less compressed music and voices. This is how a Remaster is done.
What you don't get with the Remaster: „censorship“ of any kind. Even the pidgin speaking sea-mian Rastafarian boneheads in Moai Better Blues are still in there unaltered and cringey racist as ever, if that's your cup of Banang (personally, I would have re-voiced those, sorry folks). Bosco's voice actor changed, but his lines remain the same (apparently Telltale Games became more culturally sensitive between 2006 and 2007 already, who would have guessed?). The original voice actor Joey Camen can still be heard a whole lot in at least three additional roles, one of which was „censored“ already in the original 2008 release.
What I'd like to add: I happen to know that a GOG employee has explicitly asked the developer for Season 2 to release here. I'd just like to say to this gal or guy, you're awesome and thank you so much.
