Roadwarden

I went to a small fantasy fishing town and typed in keywords to interrogate them in-depth about their economic productive prospects and processes. 10/10, made for nerds like me, highly recommend.

Roadwarden is the first game in while that's really drawn me in, despite only being a few steps removed from a text adventure game. The game is something between an RPG, an adventure game, and interactive fiction and I can't think of any game that strikes a similar balance. The writing is outstanding, grounded and novelistic. There's a sense of uncovering to hidden truths long forgotten and building a web of genuine connections with the people of the peninsula that's deeply rewarding. Despite minimal graphics, the game has an outstanding atmosphere, there's a feeling of wilderness and danger here that even open world games have trouble with - and a feeling of safety and refuge when you make it to shelter. The game is heavily knowledge-based, I recommend going in with as little foreknowledge as possible. Safe travels.

light strategy, good world-building.

Bought this off a sale, because it sounded interesting. Did not regret buying it at all. Sucks you into its world with beautiful, text based-descriptions. I honestly ignored the graphics most of the time. As a roadwarden you are tasked with finding your predecessor, exploring a wild hinderland and building trust with the world. Exactly this world interaction is what makes the game interesting, you feel free in your exploration (wthout a second playthrough it is hard to say how free one really is) and this it what really makes this one shine together with the belieable and detailed world building. At first you do not seem to be able to influence much in the world you are in, but it just takes time to explore and figure out the different possibilities until things start to click nice and rewarding. First playthrough took me about 12,5 hrs as a scholar and I think I got a quite "good" ending, I might start of again at one of my later saves to see how I can branch off from my beaten path,

This is a very good and enjoyable text based game. You have got 40 days to solve the mysterious dissapearing of your precedessor as Roadwarden, and how you solve it is totally up to you. A very nice and catching game indeed and you can play it at your own pace. It´s very catchy and enjoyable and a pleasure to read. Highly recommended!
