Dated, but still good!

QfG 4:Shadows of Darkness was probably one of the first games I ever played, and really, how can you go wrong with something that has vorpal bunnies, Lovecraftian beings from beyond, and a humble village beset by beasties? The series boasts well written dialogue full of hilarious one liners quite and a classic RPG feel that still holds up today. Graphics may certainly seem out of date by today's standards, I know, but the story will suck you right in and runs continually from game to game, as can your character with the handy import/export feature! Voice acting is another additive towards the end of the series, as well as an unmentioned class, 'Paladin' which requires things done earlier on in the series to attain. If imported, a paladin character will have class specific quests and dialogue in each following game, just as any other class does!

One of the best game series of all time

For some reason this is the least known of the Sierra "Quest games". This is actually really odd because these games is, what I think, the best of ALL the Sierra "Quest games". In fact I think this is one of the best game series of ALL time. The perfect combination of classic point and click with really strong RPG-elements makes this a truly great series of games. It has adventure, comedy and interesting characters that you hardly will forget. Also different endings depending on which class you choose and what choices you make. This gives it great replayablity - together with Metal Gear Solid and Half life this is one game series I have played though and enjoyed multiple times over. I cannot recommend the Quest for Glory games enough. I think, this is not only the best of the Sierra "Quest games" it is one of the best game series of ALL time! PS. Even though you should play through the whole series, if you just want to try out one go for Quest for Glory 4. Even though it has som weird bugs it is the most atmospheric of all the games.

FINALLY!!!

I have to be sorry if this sounds overly excited but I am beyond stoked to find this series. I just so happened to be looking at Kings Quest and Space Quest on Steam which i have found memories of from when i was a kid. An i saw in a review that Quest For Glory was available on GOG.com! I actually had but QFG in the search results on Steam which brought me to the above listed games. I have been searching for these games ever since my Anthology Collection disc got corrupted about 14 years ago. I cant wait to dive back into the QFG games. These games are the ones i kept playing over and over as a kid especially QFG 1 Remake and 3. I never played QFG2 because at the time it was beyond me but i learned that there has been a remake of QFG2 which i plan to download. An i never could finish QFG 4 because of the corruption of the Collection. Finally though i get to relive my childhood through these games! The writing, characters, and settings are all amazing. The class structure never seemed to bad because as long as you put a minimum amount of SP's into a attribute you can improve it. The other great thing was that you can carry you character over from one game to the next. Which for its time was years ahead of other games! I highly recommend this game to everyone and anyone looking for a good adventure game. So i guess the final thing i have to say is, So Do You Want To Be A Hero?

Quality, even years later

I have a personal experience with this series that makes me give it a Five Star. You have to be Perfect for that in my book. While the series isn't perfect, its the only way to show my experience. Originally Quest For Glory 5 was not going to happen, but the fans pushed for it and Sierra finally listened. During the design process the Coles invited the fans to send in email with various ideas, thoughts and concerns about the progress of the game. So, being a fan, I did the same. I never expected a response, or at best, a form letter. I got an actual personal response. That in and of itself says the Coles care not just about the game but about the people who play it. But, it went one step farther. I gave commentary every so often, just like all the rest of the fans. Then due to real life I was offline for around eight months. I returned, got caught up, and sent email again with new thoughts. Lori Cole actually remembered me, and wondered what had happened. They poured their all into the games, not just because their names were attached to the game, but because they actually cared. I can't recommend the game enough as a result.

Memorable and unforgettable

We all have games that we grew up with and defined our childhood, and the QFG series was one of them for me. I played QFG1 VGA over and over as a kid back in the early 90's, and it was a magical experience unlike no other. This is a game that is not only an adventure and RPG, but an early implementation of what we call the sandbox. If you use the 'pick up' icon on the grass, your character will pick up a few small pebbles which you can then use for different purposes. You could use it to knock something out of a tree, knock the hermit's door up on a cliff or, if you dare, throw it at the rogue that occasionally hangs out in front of the gates to Spielberg (though you'll die a quick death as a result). You could find work sweeping the king's stable, get paid some coin and be permitted to sleep overnight if you're exhausted and need a place to rest. Those empty flasks that used to hold healing potions that saved your hero in moments of need can now be used to collect clear spring water at the nearby lake. Feeling hungry? Pick the fruit from the tree at Erana's Peace (one of the few real safe places in the game where nothing will harm you). You will need to eat and sleep in this game, so venturing out without food rations will lead to death through starvation, and depriving your hero of sleep will cause him to collapse in exhaustion and die (presumbly to monsters). These are things you won't see in today's games, which is why I love this game so much. It gave you freedom to explore and rewarded you for your ingenuity and creativity. There's none of that aim-and-shoot anything that moves or boring "kill ten rats" quests, but an intricate and complex quest that will see you travel to distant lands and rely on clues, objects in your inventory and your imagination to solve the mystery. There's a load of humour that will make you laugh if you have the know-how to discover it. All in all, this is the best game series that the now defunct Sierra has ever made, in my opinion. This game deserves to be played by any gamer who enjoys a mix of adventure, RPG and sandbox elements all in a beautifully-realised world where the characters, problem-solving and planning ahead matters more than simply having good graphics and sound.
