Opis
Delve into people's minds as Raz, a powerful young cadet at a psychic summer camp. While working on his merit badge in levitation, Raz discovers that someone is kidnapping psychic children and stealing their brains. To foil this evil plot and earn the title of Psychonaut, Raz must project himself into the mind of one bizarre character after another to battle their nightmares and inner demons. He does all this while continuing to earn psychic merit badges in subjects such as telekinesis, clairvoyance and fire-starting.

The first half of this game is easily one of the most enjoyable I've had in the past year. But as is the case with many humorous games, the laughs begin to fade in the home stretch and in the end Psychonauts started to wear on me.

What's unavoidable is the fact that almost all of the problems that weigh Psychonauts down are borne out of the legacy that the platform genre itself has, and Double Fine - like so many other developers - has largely been unable to avoid falling into the same pitfalls of inconsistent level design and unwise difficulty spikes. Dammit.

A Bold Exception
If people ask me what kind of game proves that video games can be artistic, I'd point to this 3D Platformer. It starts out like a Saturday morning cartoon, and not one that you'll particularly enjoy into adulthood. You get thrown into an open hub with the usual collect-a-thon stuff, and it's a little janky on top of it all. The first stage isn't even all that interesting, and has some pretty frustrating sections. It doesn't make a very good first impression. That's okay, though, because some of my favorite games get off to a bad start. Things start to get a bit better once you get to the second stage, but as time goes on, you start to notice all of those collectibles improving your basic abilities! That's right: they don't exist just for their own sake, and the reward isn't just one extra area at the end if you've wasted hours of your life getting EVERY SINGLE ONE; they have value that helps you out along the way. The main premise of the game is to explore the minds of others, which can range from creepy to downright hilarious. It's all really well written, though, and some of the areas are jaw-droppingly gorgeous. It even touches on mental illness a bit, and while it's in kind of a goofy way, there's still something to it. I'm not a big fan of 3D Platformers, but this is a worthy exception.

It's Okay...
I tend to like Double Fine's point-and-click titles as they're cleverly written and contain genuinely memorable and what feel like genuine personalities and characters. But it tends to be in games like Psychonauts and Brutal Legend where this changes and Double Fine's quality goes down a bit. Firstly, this game is wayyyyyy better than Brutal Legend, that game is a cringe-fest and has a very unlikeable protagonist and I could not play it any further than I did which was a few hours. This game on the other hand is genuinely good, good in the sense that I acknowledge it's quality but personally, I don't enjoy it. The ideas and the way they deal with gameplay is really fun, like Mental Cobwebs, Emotional Baggage, Figments, it's just so clever and charming in the way that Double Fine's point and click's tend to be. But, there's no emotional core. I don't feel anything when playing this game, other than the occasional snort or "Heh, that's funny" I don't care much for this game in the way or the characters, the dynamics between characters and I get that it's a fun rollercoaster ride of 3D platforming but usually there's gotta be something triggering within the first few hours that REALLY makes you need to get into the head of your hero and sympathize with them but there is nothing remotely resembling a motivation for me. For the character it's that he wants to be a Psychonaut, okay, good for him. But I can't relate to my parents not wanting me to be a Psychic Soldier so I have to go out of my way to join a camp where I can be one, I can't even remotely fell any emotional connection to this game so I had to quit. But I acknowledge that this is not by any means a BAD game, I just personally couldn't enjoy it.

Best game ever
This is one of the best game out there, my only problem is with the gog version, it has a tendency of crashing.
