Addictive, Entertaining, Funny, Scary

This game originally came out on EIGHT CDs. It uses a lot of video clips with real people who were decent actors. The plot is just creepy. And yes you can die in this game. There are lots of freaky moments as the game slowly unfolds. I highly recommend it, although you may need a walk through from time to time and you may need to adjust for compatibility, but let me tell you, it is worth it if you love a good story and being part of it! Graphics are obviously dated, but were cutting edge on its release day. Audio can get a little quiet in some scenes so make sure that its easy for you to turn up the volume without accidentally skipping a dialogue portion. *Spoiler Alert* Pay special attention to your surroundings in the fifth chapter, you may be surprised** All in all amazing story and if you like playing a female main all the better!

One of the best!

This was realy realy big back in the days when games began to come on cd's and some games had video in the game. I remember how incredible everyone thought this game was with voiceovers and video! And the horror part was scary back in the days... So if you like adventure games and missed out on this game...buy it! It's better then some of the games that comes out today even... BIG thanks to gog.com for delivering these classics back to us! Without you some of the best games of all times would be missed by alot of gamers out there. Again thanks gog.com!

It has aged well

I remember seeing parts this game with a friend, back in the 90s, and only got to play it now (thanks GOG!). Of course the graphics look old, and the game is linear, but its very well made, a great design! It has a simple narrative but it's well told. I enjoyed the experience, it's a short game, a rewarding old school experience.

Amazing

I first played Phantasmagoria around 15 years ago when I was a youngster. This was one of the scariest games I'd ever played. I've had the game on CD for many years, but new OS won't load the game, so it was awesome to find it here on this site. The game was very difficult for me on my first play through as a small child, but playing as an adult and remembering what to do the game went by fast. Took me around 4 months when I was a child to about 4 hours as an adult. However, if you have never played the game before and you don't abuse the Hint Keeper, you should get a good amount of time out the game. The game didn't age well at all. The visuals are terrible, but it doesn't take away from the story and characters. If you have 10 bucks, buy the game. If you don't have 10 bucks, save up and buy the game. It is so worth it. I am so happy GOG put this game up. Thanks for the memories! P.S. Don't get Puzzle of Flesh. It has nothing to do with this game and sucks in comparison. Next step is to beg for a true sequel to the game! Where's Phantasmagoria 3!?

Great game of its time

I remember buying this when it first came out - saw a cardboard display at a computer expo show and HAD to have it, knowing nothing about the game. Hindsight being 20/20, I was WAY too young to play the game the first time (thank goodness it allowed you to censor some of the more violent cutscenes as a game play option). Despite having to leave the room while some (most) of the cutscenes played, I found the game to be enjoyable. The puzzles were not impossible but it still had a few past-the-point-of-no-return moments (I died at the end innumerable times before realizing that I was missing a key item in my inventory). If you have never played this game and enjoy your adventure games, I strongly suggest making the purchase here. That being said, if you play this one and feel even slightly weirded out, avoid the sequel like the plague - that one is even more weird and unnerving!
