Genre-Changing

Ahhh Phantasmagoria. I first played this game as a teenager, and it was awesome. I remember spending many nights playing this, waking everyone up every time I yelped because I was startled over something (and it happened a LOT). As for the technical aspects, this was one of the first games I played with full motion video. It's obviously green-screened and can be slow at times with all the video transitions, but the story is one of the best I've seen in a horror game. Warning though, if you don't like gore, use the censor filter. THERE IS A LOT of it. All in all great game. Thanks GoG!

A very rough diamond

A very hyped and expected game back in the day, but one that personally let me down. First up, why was Roberta Williams chosen to write the game? The plot is like a mashup of the worst Stephen King novels and general horror clichés, and gets very stagnant at times. The very ending is thrilling and well made, but sadly doesn't make up for the awfulness prior to it. The actors are quite bad, and at times there was too much video and too little gameplay. Which for the most part was dead easy aswell. And the music.. aside from a few good pieces that mostly come during videos, the gameplay music in itself is a horrible midi "bleep bloop" -fest. And they somehow managed to make the sequel even worse.. Overall, a very, very rough diamond. But if you are a fan of the genre and can stomach the clichés and lapses in gameplay, then you should definitely give the game a go.

Meh, it's decent

I played this out of sheer nostalgia. I had the original copy back in 95ish and thought it was great. Let's just say it hasn't aged all that well. The plot is...very mysterious. Not a whole lot of backstory. While it does let you figure it all out by the end of it, it's just very very very little breadcrumbs here and there as the game goes on, almost too little for too long. That said, the environment is nice and large, but there is VERY little to actually do/click on for some audio/visual narritive. The acting is ok for this type of game, but nothing to brag about. Keep in mind there are NO subtitles to turn on as well, which stinks IMO.

Real good movie you play yourself!

I loved this game when i was a kid playing this on my 486 dx-66.It´s really cool to play it again now, WITHOUT 856 CDs. ;) But it´s not challenging to play. I´d say you can walk right through it without any problems. But this doesn´t mean you won´t have fun with it. It´s a lot of fun. The corny gore scenes are really cool, like the hot chick adriane wearing no bra. Sadly she´s wearing the same outfit with those orange shirt and black pants during the whole game. Too bad. : But saying that, it´s really funny at the end that her husband only cut photos of her wearing that same outfit, so i guess she´s been wearing this her whole life. :D Anyway if you want a challenging adventure you might get something else. if you want a fun game/movie with a nice girl and some gore in it, you should try this one.
