An island outside of reality. A rogue human civilization hoping to resurrect dead alien gods. A murder behind locked doors.
Paradise is an island that regenerates every few millennia. The psychic power that the alien worshipers within release into the universe is meant to feed and eventually resurrect their fallen deities. But this force also attracts undesired interest from demons, who eventually corrupt each island — until a new alternate reality is birthed by the Council.
The system isn’t perfect, but it will be one day — on Perfect 25, the next island-to-be. But on the eve of rebirth, the Council is murdered and Paradise is killed.
In the aftermath, the “investigation freak” Lady Love Dies is summoned from exile to find the culprit. This is the crime to end all crimes.
What are the facts? What are the truths? Are they the same?
Return to Paradise Island in this updated and enhanced version of Paradise Killer, featuring new music and new mysterious beings, additional quests and rewards, extra Starlight skins, and more collectibles to find, plus performance improvements, a HUDless. A free update for all players, available March 16, 2022.
Featuring DX12 support, ray tracing (DX12 only), advanced upscaling (NVidia DLSS and AMD SR), and a host of other visual and performance updates, Paradise Island looks more stunning than ever! Also available in the March 16 update.
You are tasked with finding the killer and building an airtight case against them. Take your case to trial and argue your interpretation of the evidence. Only when someone is successfully convicted can the crime be considered solved and Paradise be saved.
The “truth” is that there are many possible killers, and many ways to build a case. Even if you make a convincing case for prosecution and get someone convicted, is the mystery really solved?
Paradise is an island set in an alternate future history filled with cryptic lore and even more mysteries. Examine bizarre relics to learn more about this world’s surreal history.
You choose who to accuse, and build a case to support conviction. Everyone on Paradise has a secret to hide and something to gain. Old friends become new suspects, forcing you to choose between the evidence, the greater good and your own beliefs. There are many possible murderers, but who you pick will define your own personal truth.
Let your personal computer and electronic assistant Starlight be your guide through another dance of an investigation. Collect evidence, record testimony and interpret the facts to form your own truth.
Solve hieroglyph puzzles on ancient nightmare computers to discover new areas of the island, find concealed evidence and reveal terrifying secrets.
The character designs, music, limited voice acting, and general island paradise aesthetics made me feel like I was exploring a lux and hip tropical vacation spot. They stood out as something I haven't encountered in a game before, and I thoroughly enjoyed the vibes of the island as I traversed it. Still listening to the music after beating it.
The game play is largely open-world exploration and collecting clues and items, without any invisible walls. The playspace is contained to the relatively small island, so exploring isn't overwhelming, and I never found myself getting lost or having to back-track for an extended period. That plus unlockable fast-travel made movement extremely easy.
Though small, the island is dense with unique, creatives structures and and art, making it a joy to explore. Plus there are secrets, clues, and currency hidden in cracks and crevices all over, so the game rewarded me for thorough searching.
The mystery is fun as well, unfolding through a gameplay loop of searching for clues, talking to suspects about what you find, and then talking to other suspects about what each other said.
Repeat.
And the mystery has some excellent twists to uncover alternative.
The game is relatively short, only 10-15 hours at the max. An enjoyable romp.
The visuals, the lore, and the characters are pretty cool!
When it comes to the investigation itself it's like a Phoenix Wright game. You pick up clues, and in the end you use them at a trial.
The only downside is that exploring and going back and forth between locations gets a bit tedious after a while.
Paradise Killer is one of the games where you spend most of the time thinkinng to yourself: "What the f is this? What the f is that? Why am I really playing this?"
But it keeps engaging you and rewards you with a story that falls all into place. It is not the deepest game or the most complex one, but it nails its landing and atmosphere.
I am truly mixed about this game. It has some much potential and also so much missed opportunity.
The good:
A unique game of open area exploration that is vibrant and colorful
Which leads to the fun gameplay of exploring and trying to reach hidden places for the games currency.
The music is great.
The bad:
Openly satanic, there is just no other way to describe it. From the designs, blood sacrafices for chests, the behind the scenes story of sacraficing the common people, the goat horned puzzles, goatheaded super model, and more. You main character interaction is with a blue demon with censored middle fingers and a smilely face covering his privates. If your sensative or easily offended by this steer clear.
Odd character designs and names. I am not sure if its just bad translations from a different language but its hard to become invested in the story when everything and everyone has some truly bizarre names.
It feels like the game was created by completely different sets of people.
It's not completely bad, but it sure isn't great.
This game is waiting for a review. Take the first shot!
