Outcast 1.1 has been recompiled from the original source code and improved to run smoothly on today's computers.The main improvements compared to the original version are: multithreaded voxel renderer for higher performances, software bilinear filtering on polygonal meshes, part of the HUD redesigned to match higher resolutions, new high-resolution sky paintings, new launcher, native support of xbox gamepad, user-friendly controller configuration, a lot of bugs fixed and improved stability.

As part of a covert experiment, the US military deployed a probe designed to prove the existence of a parallel universe hidden from our own. Although the probe successfully entered the alternate universe and reached a planet called Adelpha, its first crucial data transmission is mysteriously cut short.
The probe's unexpected demise triggers a disastrous chain of events resulting in the creation of a black hole, one that threatens to destroy the Earth. Unless the missing probe can somehow be found and repaired, planet Earth itself is doomed.

I just recently joined gog.com and this is the first game I bought. I never heard of this game until yesterday. It looked interesting, so I picked it up. I have one thing to say, "this game blew me away." It is incredible, this game is better than many new titles that have come out in recent months. This game has only one genre, (awesome). Outcast has so many different play styles and elements, that you just cant put it under one category. It might be old, but it is defiantly worth the SIX bucks! If this game looks remotely good to you or interests in anyway, then you need to buy it and play. You wont regret it.
I remember being ten when this game came out. My mom and I competed over the computer just to play the demo. It was one of the first sandbox games I'd ever had played. With an engaging, interesting story and a fully realized unique world that I sincerely wish we could see again.
Outcast reimagining or sequal is overdue, or a game in a similar vein. Beautifully artistic, beautiful soundtrack, and a work of passion.Ah, still have the disc though from buying it new... so not buying on GoG. Pointless if you still own it!
I can't believe this pretty much flopped back when it was first released. Mainly due to the steep hardware requirements which are nothing nowadays.
Add the V3 HD patch and it is fantastic. Runs great on my Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit i5-2430m laptop using either the HD3000 integrated GPU or the dedicated AMD 6650m. Just have to launch using the loader.exe file not the GOG start.exe.
At its time this game was like AMAZING!!!!. Now? Not so much... It was impressive how they could push the PC-technology without the need for special hardware (read: Video Cards).
I'm not sure if a 15-year old gamer could possibly understand what this was was really about. However, if you really want to understand the evolution of games, then take a Good Look At: Outcast!!
