The greatest oldschool CRPG EVER.

Alrighty then. This is my review. Played the old, old, OLd version at launch. Waited for years for an update but next to none came about from Bioware because Atari screwed them HARD. Then along comes this edition and it's wonderful! *UI enhancments all caross the board. Modern compatablity with new hardware! *MORE revived canceled modules finished and released! This game is a peach and has the best community at the neverwinter valut! Revived multiplayer! I want to address the ones screaming the loudest that this is not worth it.....most of you are not even verified OWNERS! You all DO understand that most of the old workhorses from Bioware moved to Beamdog or even lent their help to make this happen right? The only time I have had this version crash was when playing third party modules with janky scripting....

Enhanced? In which way?...

Neverwinter Nights - 5 stars, one of the best games of all times. Enhanced Edition - 1 star Can someone really tell me the purpose of Beamdog existence? Or is it merely parasitizing on the legendary titles like Neverwinter Nights and Baldur's Gate, adding an "Enhanced" title to it and slapping a $20 tag? Let me tell you this - nothing in this game is enhanced compared to the Diamond version. Nothing In fact it's quite the opposite. Graphic/Performance - the blur, the acidic vividness and "depth of field" effects can not be called graphic engine enhancements, it's just a façade built upon the old engine (that can be disabled though). And trust me you will more likely disable them anyway since they add 0 value to the imagery while unnecessarily straining resources. Unfortunately other graphic "enhancements" cannot be so easily reverted therefore it's amusing how my potato PC 20 years ago could run this game better and had more fps than my modern rig today trying to run EE. Why Beamdog? What did you do to break something that worked perfectly in Diamond? For what purpose? Backwards Compatibility - if you feel the nostalgia of replaying old modules that rocked your world years ago, be prepared for the disappointment, frustration and hours of your time lost because probably somewhere near the end of the module something will terminally break. Which did not happen in Diamond a lot. The amount of patches creators made over the years for their old modules to accommodate for "EE" speaks volumes about the quality of so called "Enhanced" edition. That is if they did make them. And unfortunately some awesome titles liked by many of us from NWN Vault hall of fame were not patched or still have problems. Bugs and glitches - game crashes constantly, saved games get lost or corrupted. Should I go on? Verdict: That's all you get for this ridiculous price. If you have the possibility to play Diamond version - my advice for you to spar your mental health and avoid EE.

!Toolset

The recent updates have completely broken the toolset, which is a core part of the game for me. I've tried every possible fix to resolve the issue, but it’s clear that the problem is tied specifically to this version. The toolset works perfectly on the Diamond version, but modules created with the Enhanced Edition are incompatible and unusable. This renders a significant portion of the game experience non-functional, particularly for those of us who value the ability to create and customize modules. I sincerely hope the developers address this soon, as it severely detracts from the game's appeal and utility.

I just wanted to play game with friends

Why is it so hard to get this to work with multiplayer? It is 2020! - We have had to re-enter our serial key multiple times. - Some of us could not host because the server name was rejected - Some of us could not directly connect for some random errors - One of us had to edit multiple ini to get the game to work on Windows I just want to play with friends. This game surmises what 2020 is, a terrible experience.

If you don't already own NWN...

...This is well worth it. Especially if you grab it during the many times it goes on sale. The Enhanced Edition itself has problems, like the occasional bug, but in my experience nothing game breaking. As of this writing Beamdog is still supporting the game with updates, but just know your mileage may vary when it comes to the "enhanced" edition. Thankfully, the original Diamond Edition is included here if you don't already own it. As for the actual content of the game, just know that the default campaigns are a mixed bag. The original "Official Campaign" plays more like a tech demo, and is completely skippable. Shadows of Undrentide is better than the OC, but still has issues with quality control. Hordes of the Underdark, however, is incredible, and well worth the price of admission. The only downside is that in being a high level campaign, it's a little awkward to start it with a fresh character, as it's technically a continuation of SoU. Still, it's well worth playing for fans of Bioware's Golden Age. NWN as a game has its issues; the lack of full party control can make large scale fights a chore when their AI acts up, but the implementation of the ruleset makes character progression very rewarding. It's not at the level of Baldur's Gate, but the amount of content at your finger tips - between the campaigns and user made content - makes NWN an easy recommendation for serious fans of RPGs.
