"Review the game"

Apparently, not everyone is willing to abide by GOG's review standards and NOT downvote the game based on its price or the fact they don't like a company. So, let's discuss the game itself, as GOG wishes the reviewers to do. Most of what can be said regarding Neverwinter Nights: Diamond Edition applies to the EE. It's a one of a kind package, allowing players to play through hundreds of adventures, singleplayer and multiplayer alike - and create their own. The greatest possible treat for any Dungeons & Dragons enthusiasts. The first improvement is compatibility with newers machines and systems. I no longer experience launch crashes or ALT-TAB related problems. The EE also brings back the previously non-functional master server, to make searching for multiplayer games easier. If you ever had troubles connecting via IP to a friend, this is taken care of as well, with NAT punching implemented to enable multiplayer even behind routers. Another perk I find very nice is UI scaling. Only after I've played with interface double the original size for a while and reverted back for a moment, did I realize how small it is in 1080p and tiring for my eyes. Small graphical features in the form of extra filters are welcome, but not that important. Many bugfixes have also been made and although the EE introduces some new bugs, most of the larger ones are gone already and the remainder is being worked on. The biggest changes, however, are mostly noticable to module builders (like me) and server owners. The worth of changes in these categories are undeniable. From area instancing, to the option to hide cloaks and helmets (which players can only now do as well with a simple mod they can download), to hak preloading (which prevents characters created on servers from being illegal), to normal mapping... and much more. Think what you want of Beamdog or the price, but feature-wise, NWN:EE is a clear improvement over the DE.

So, I own this on Steam because I really wanted to believe in Beamdog, and I can say that - without a doubt - 'Neverwinter Nights: Enhanced Edition' does not deserve your money with its current asking price (even at -50% off for those who already own the Diamond edition). Here are a few of the major reasons: 1. Several of the original Diamond version glitches are still present in this one and - hilariously - the unofficial fan patch for the Diamond version that fixes these glitches can't work with with the Enhanced Edition so - in other words - you're paying more for an inferior version of the game that has lesser modding potential as of the date of this review. 2. It introduces its own glitches: ironically, mostly visuals (that aren't in the original Diamond edition) so there are flickering problems and weird frame rate drops (though, this glitchy experience is based off my PC, my friends' PCs, and some complaints on the forums so your experience may be different). 3. Aside from compatibility (which the Diamond version barely had much of these issues to begin with), the 'enhanced' edition is BARELY enhanced at all (thus, 'Alpha Enhanced', not 'Beta Enhanced') and is currently still 'in-progress' of being enhanced; I know this because I'm currently following Beamdog's list on them trying to fix their newly brought problems and the old ones and - strangely - bringing in more problems as they are fixing their glitches and the old ones. To give you an idea, the list just gets bigger and bigger and bigger with every new patch so far and it's very disappointing. 4. And many more smaller but significant reasons, which the word limit won't allow for. But multiplayer is working smoothly from my experience, but I don't play 'Neverwinter Nights' primarily for the multiplayer, so my 1/5 rating reflects my experience and interests (i.e. you may give it higher for the multiplayer). One day, this 'enhanced' edition may be worth it, but not yet, so Hold Your Wallet.

Markedly Inferior to Diamond

A broken, dying husk of the former heyday of the game. Buggier than before with exceptionally minor 'tweaks' that don't warrant a $20 pricetag when the superior version (Diamond) was sold for $10 until Beamdog had that shut down, forever dooming newcomers to an inferior version. (Until they man up and bring it back to the market.) I've tested out this version by running it when compared to NWN Diamond, and my hard-copy of NWN Diamond... it actually runs objectively worse and I'm not sure how that's possible. (Yes I own three copies of NWN1, I freaking love that game. Don't judge please. :) ) What's perhaps the most despairing about this is that it's clear that there wasn't a lot of care put into converting this and any 'quality' improvements were so minor that I honestly wasn't able to figure out what Beamdog's on about. I've heard some people say it runs better on newer versions... but honestly I'd say that depends on what you're talking about. The toolset editor in this version (which I practically lived in for a few years of my life) is fundamentally buggy with odd graphical glitches, the music cutting out after two seconds, and being altogether unpleasant to deal with. To the Devs and Beamdog. I know that sometimes converting this stuff can be difficult. But you really need to overhaul this title. Labeling this as 'enhanced' when so little has been done, and it's been made worse than previous titles is offensive, and I guarantee people are going to remember this years, if not decades down the line when they see your name pop up. Talking to some other fans of the game there are people who are far more harsh towards you than I am. My suggestion is actually fix this, make it work well, add enough features and expansions (playable kobolds please? ;) ) and make it truly worth $20. Otherwise this title's going to come with a stigma on your company, which people will hold over your head until the dissolution of your company. Anyways, that's my take on it. Take care

Not a refresh. 'Enhanced' Exhaggerated.

BUGGY! Visual bugs and quick slot bugs are prevalent in this Neverwinter Nights Enhanced Edition. A bit of an irony considering a large premise of the EE version was a graphical and UI upgrade (as with changes bugs often happen but I hope this is fixed later) . The graphical changes this EE version touts appear mild. Nothing actually stood out as different, however the UI changes are a welcomed convenience. Multiplayer is part of this game, so I review it; Perhaps it is me, but when I hear backwards compatible I expect a game not to mess up the multiplayer servers I play on. Although it does state backward compatibility with "original Neverwinter Nights", having to buy a game I already have 5 copies of to continue playing on an upgraded server and messing up non-upgraded servers is a little frustrating. Upside, I haven't noticed any crashes yet, or had to make tweaks to get it to work on my up-to-date Windows (something I did not find difficult to do), so that is convenient. Overall; Convenience. The Neverwinter Nights Enhanced Edition, has been more of a convenience rather than necessity, though it necessitates both servers and client to have the same editions. If you are going to buy NWN for the first time, I'd suggest this version since many servers will probably switch to EE and user convenience when playing the campaign.

Wait for Beamdog to improve b4 buying

Neverwinter Nights Diamond is 4.5 star game, but NWN Enhanced Edition is nowhere near being worth $19.99. I own (and love!!) Neverwinter Nights Diamond. If you love Bioware RPG's, you'll love it!!So I was very excited when I saw the NWN Enhanced Edition from Beamdog. I have enhanced editions of BG1, BG2, Icewind Dale and Planescape Torment. All of these enhanced editions are well worth the money!! I tried all the mods for these games, but the Enhanced Editions from Beamdog were superior to the originals with mods (at least for me). But not so for NWN Enhanced Edition. I turned up all the graphic features to the max and could only tell marginal differences to the original Diamond Edition. Also Diamond Edition has twice the frame rate of the Enhanced Edition. This would be forgivable if the EE version looked significantly better than the Diamond Edition, but that's just not the case. I know there are changes in the EE edition that make things easier for gamers who create mods and their own campaigns, but I don't do that. I just play the game. So maybe for these type of gamers the EE edition may be worth it, but this doesn't apply to me. I assume over time Beamdog will improve NWN EE, but as of mid-October 2018 I would highly recommend to *NOT* waste your money on Neverwinter Nights Enhanced Edition. It's well below what Beamdog normally delivers. Also supposedly the EE edition can use save games from Diamond edition. But by default the EE edition cannot find the old Diamond edition games. Beamdog needs to add an option to load games from the Diamond edition. I mean both are GOG games, so there's no reason Beamdog can't make it as easy as possible to load games from previous versions of NWN.
