Wannabe pirate Guybrush Threepwood, and the now zombie pirate LeChuck, return in what has long been considered one of the greatest LucasArts adventure games of all time. Monkey Island™ 2 Special Edition: LeChuck’s Revenge™ faithfully re-imagines the classic Monkey Island™ sequel in signature special edition detail. Expanding on the highly successful The Secret of Monkey Island™: Special Edition in just about every way, fans will now experience new unique special edition features and interact with the world of Monkey Island like never before.
Having seemingly defeated the evil ghost pirate LeChuck in his first adventure, Guybrush Threepwood sets his sights on the legendary treasure of Big Whoop. But wait, LeChuck is now back in zombie form and he's out for revenge. Guybrush will have to use his wits, his humor and his insatiable desire for adventure to defeat his nemesis once and for all and truly prove himself the greatest pirate in the Caribbean. Voodoo dolls, spitting contests and amusement parks are just some of the challenges Guybrush must overcome as he meets old friends, fights new enemies and uses every ounce of his mojo to overcome the wrath of LeChuck’s revenge.
Been having trouble installing this on two separate machines that both say installation failed. No other game has given me issues like this, especially on two different PC's. Bought the game maybe two years ago and never tried installing until now, so warranty is up. Any help or direction to a help forum would be appreciated, thank you.
A great retooling that improves on the previous one- one of the complaints about the first Monkey Island Special Edition was the, frankly, rather ugly art style, and this one, while still a bit divisive, is a lot less offputting. Even better, if you use the option to switch to the old-school graphics, you now also have the option of keeping the voice acting on, allowing you to enjoy the best of both worlds- something the previous game couldn't do.
As for the game itself, it's a classic just like the original. I personally didn't like the weird emphasis on gross-out humor with the spit and obese governor and such, but it was balanced out by a darker, spookier tone and more varied environments. Unlike the first one, some of the puzzles are finicky and go beyond the typical Lucasarts formula, requiring precise timing or positioning, and your inventory is absolutely massive, with many items being entirely useless. This could be frustrating and a little unfair for people playing it the first time- but the game has a built-in hint system, so it's not too much of a knock against it. The jokes are as funny as ever, and of course, the ending is famous with good reason, so I still recommend this one highly- a great game to begin with, and just about the best remastering that one could ask for.
My one complaint is that the updated graphics and music, though mostly accurate to the original, inevitably give everything a slightly softer, lighter vibe that ruins the eerie parts of the game a bit- if you've never played Monkey Island 2 before, I'd highly recommend running it in retro mode first (maybe even without the voices) to get the full feeling of the original experience, before trying out the newly-added content.
Great game but my game is stuck in a gameplay loop that cant be completed. I looked it up online and there's nothing I can do but restart my game to fix this. Make sure you save often enough, I unfortunately saved after I made my mistake so I'm stuck
was a part of life of 70's-&80's-borns....in a row with day of the tentacle...
it's a nice makeover & add-on for my 2 lil i4770/i4790 4gb gpu 8/16gb ram win10 pc's; on them i play older pc (90's - early2010's)/dos/amiga-emu games...still looking out for older cheap games on sale...
Unlike the remaster of the first in the series this one does have a UI very similar to the third entry making for significantly smoother gameplay. Basically you hold down one of the mouse buttons you get several options for how you can interact with whatever you're pointing at you move the mouse to choose that one rather than having to use the hot keys(one of which I still could not tell you because I use it so rarely switched to the old setup which thankfully now does include the voice acting) and click the verbs or use the mouse wheel to scroll through. It's honestly so baffling to me that they didn't jump directly to this when making that one since they already had the perfect model for it from back in 1997. I don't know maybe it was a new Coke type situation. I appreciate that this does certain things very different from the first and the third. This one doesn't have insult sword fighting and there's less of a focus on Elaine which makes for a more different experience then what we got before and since. The humor is about the same. There's basically every single type of joke present at one point or another so you never know exactly which one you're going to get; verbal, gross out, sight gag, pop culture reference, meta etc. This has a truly “you gotta see it to believe it” ending and while I don't know for sure I can imagine it divided people, it's very much a love it or hate it and I'm firmly in the former camp. I won't give away what it is but I thought a little bit about it every day for a week after completing this. This does a good job at being a sequel building on things that were set up in the first without feeling like a retread. They clearly still had ideas; they weren't just doing it because the first one did well. This has some of the best locations, characters and puzzles. There is some offensive stereotyping albeit not quite as much and at least some of them are depicted as being good people who helped you out which can maybe help temper racism.
