The promise of greatness within a mist.
A true sandbox game. You can do whatever you want. A lot of replayability and exploration - as most sandboxes should have (but don't). I highly recommend it for people who really want a challenge and don't want boring preludes or long winded intros and caveats. The game is honest about what it gives you. And that is great. A lot of games promise a lot, and deliver mediocre results. This game doesn't really promise too much, but surprises you in a lot of ways. However even with all the praise everyone gives it - there's a few things I have to point out. A lot of bugs still plague the experience. Plus a lot of missed opportunities when it comes to worldbuilding. It does it decently, however it's lackluster. Some things that make sense for this game, and are screaming to be part of it, are not. One of them is multiplayer - it would be a co-op dream come true, IF it was actually in the game. I think this is a huge detriment. The multiplayer would've made it 10 times more enjoyable and would've made the experience more meaningful within the game world. The other is procedurally generated maps. The original experience should be maintained, as the developer intended, but an option to manually generated cities, or maps, and dungeon locations would've made for actually interesting playthroughs. Once you know everyhing there is to know, the magic kind of dissapears and you're mostly left with difficulty levels and a tower defense simulator. The RPG elements quickly dry out, and the surprises, once you find out who's who and where's where. A third thing that would make this game even better would've been a nemesis system, not unlike Shadow or Mordor, where individuals within the world would either develop grudges, or goals towards your destruction [ or your benefit ]. These three things would've made for an actual masterpiece. Who knows, maybe with Kenshi 2. Kenshi may be the groundwork prototype for that and more.
