Jenny LeClue is a thrilling story of mystery, adventure and growing up. Set in the sleepy town of Arthurton, the game is filled with memorable, complex characters and rendered in a unique aesthetic.
Embrace the choosiness and shape the metanarrative. You are not the only guiding hand shaping Jenny’s destiny, but your choices will help her unravel the tangled mystery and become the detective she was born to be.
Jenny gets more than she bargains for when her mother is accused of murder, and begins an unexpected journey to find the truth.
She soon discovers the idyllic town of Arthurton is not what it seems, and unseen forces will stop at nothing to keep Jenny from the truth. She will need all her skills of deduction to find the real killer and clear her mother’s name.
A pocket-sized heroine on a big quest for justice:
Jenny is a brilliant young detective, sharp eyed, intuitive and a ruthless pursuer of the truth. She is able to look around during dialogue scenes, observing the subject for visible clues that might reveal their guilt or innocence that would otherwise go undetected.
A beautiful handmade world, packed with secrets:
A sleek, gorgeous hand drawn world with vintage mid-20th century aesthetics and mystery squished into every corner. There’s so much to interact with, and players who poke and prod at every last thing are rewarded with insight, secrets, and humor.
A story within a story, where your choosiness matters:
Jenny LeClue weaves a rich metanarrative around a rich story exploring themes of family, loss, and identity. The "author" of Jenny's adventures, Arthur K Finklestein, acts as narrator and guide, but his presence also allows you to make choices that change the way Jenny's story is written. These choices may even affect Finklestein’s own story.
A Diverse Cast Of Characters & Locations:
Explore Arthurton’s expansive world including the abandoned mines, the forgotten graveyard, Lake Noware, and Gumboldt's Library. Jenny will meet an array of intriguing and suspicious characters who could help or hinder her on her quest for the truth.
The game starts with asking you to choose whether something is one way or the other, but you have no idea if that changed anything to progeress the story or not. Then it gives you a frustrating puzzle to solve on a remote control button device that is not fun. Nobody would have that on their remote control. Senseless game design.
It's hard to define this game.
It's not an adventure game (it lacks inventory and interactions) but it isn't a simple visual novel as it has so much exploration and investigation mechanics. It's strange, but not in a bad sense.
I'll start with the positive: I loved the plot, the characters, the visuals, the style, most of the gameplay.
...but I disliked the easiness, and how the game guides your hand during the whole trip. And the controls are pretty slow and clumsy, I missed the mouse controls of classic graphic adventures.
Still, I enjoyed it, the good parts eclipse the bad parts, the game is worth the full price.
4/5, if Mografi gave us the promised sequel that continues the cliffhanger. 3/5 if they don't
Beautiful art and music, fun characters, easy puzzles and gameplay, interesting story. Like most who have played it, I hope there is a sequel in any form - game, book, comic - to finish it all out nicely.
Exactlyy what I hoped for. Jenny was thoroughly charming. The sets were beautiful and simple in a blend of minimalism and deep saturated color that many have attempted and few achieved. While the puzzles weren't mind bending they allowed the story to move at a pace that suited it instead of being pointless contrived distractions. I was drawn in and played through in one long session not counting a little sleep. I will be waiting cash in hand for part two as I am sure many others will. One of the games that makes it impossible to ignore that these things can be art as much as entertainment. For anyone who played without voices, that's too bad, they really nailed it on that end. Warm, intriguing and well told this is a breath of fresh air among so many titles that try to drag gravitas out of endless rewarmed cliches.
First things first - yes, not happy about no second episode readily available. Does it mean this games is bad? Freakin' no! It's awesome and I am happy to have played it ^_^
Can't remember how it fell on my radar... Anyhow, once I found out that it has no VO it had put me off and game felt to the bottom of games-to-play list. But it changed when I got notified of sale and I noticed that it got a massive update - a voice over! Got intrigued, bought it and later on played it. Totally worth it, VO is very good (it's really important to me in the games). Also not a fan of 2D games and still feel the burn with Oxenfree, but decided to give it a chance - it was the right call. Most of puzzles are nice (hated the ones with circles and alignment) and enjoyable. Story takes off slowly and felt primitive, but now I understand it was basically a tutorial. When the story kicks in - it get better and better, with good twists and witty humor. Graphics are very nice drawn and make me remember Gris in a way. The fact that mouse is not used at all is weird, but fine by me!
Special thanks for a flawless Linux build!!! No issues whatsoever on Ubuntu 18.04.
Final words - highly recommended if you are into story-driven games!
