Ultherst was once a peaceful, God-fearing land until the Three Scourges of God came to pass as foretold by Saint Ezekiel, one of the twelve followers of the First Prophet. First came the famine that devasted the populace. Next came the plague that added more unfortunate souls on Death’s abacus. Finally came the great rain of fire, and death fell down on sinner and innocent alike, blood flooding the streets in place of water. The people, in their desperation, turned away from the Holy Mother Church and delved deep into pagan decadence or succumbed to the temptation of the Devil. You have been charged with the office of Inquisitor. It is up to you to investigate crimes against the one true faith and root out heresy--using any and all means necessary. As in all best computer RPGs--the most important choices are yours to make.
Inquisitor is a unique blend of action-oriented combat with a deep and involving tale of betrayal, torture, madness, and infernal damnation. Put your wits to the test as you collect evidence against possible heretics and put them to trial once they have been charged. Use the might of the Inquisition to extract a confession from your subjects, but be warned, use your power wisely or you will face the consequences. If a gritty old-school open-ended isometric RPG is what you looking for, look no further. Inquisitor will provide you with hours of gameplay and a dark, involving story.
Three character classes--Paladin, Priest, and Thief--each with his own unique and independent story.
Wield the power of the Inquisition as you arrest heretics; use a variety of tools-such as the iron maiden, suspension, and the rack-to extract confessions and burn the heretics!
A wide, open-ended world for you to explore and exploit as you see fit.
More than 200 weapons, 80 spells, and 7 schools of forbidden and allowed magic!

Plot is good. Graphic is what you expect. But crashes to the desktop sometimes and missions get bugs that make immersion stop, so you go to find walkthroughs. I couldn't finish Lotti's one because when the infernal bats appeared to kil, she disappeared completely (bug) and I couldn't finish the mission. Frustrating, buggy, badly finished. Unbelievable.
To be fair, I have only played the first hour or so, but here are my impressions.
This game is going to be focused on your conversations and "investigation" into events. It seems most of the effort in this game went into dialogue trees and giving the player the feeling of actually sorting through testimonies and dealing with divergent points of view. Good.
Combat is a major let-down and seems to be poorly thought out and horribly implemented. It is not Diablo, but smacks more of the realtime Arcanum (two idiots swinging like crazy until they pass out from stamina loss). The enemies swarm you, using no tactics, and you have no time to use tactics of your own. Your stamina runs out so fast, it makes you wonder why it even exists in the game. Even casting spells requires you to use stamina. A lot of time is spent just waiting (one-one-thousand, two-one-thousand) for your stamina to regen so you can either swing your sword, shoot an arrow, or convert it into mana (yep, you use BOTH when casting, so you convert; wait; convert; wait; and then wait some more). Stupid. Utterly moronic.
Then we have the RPG mechanics. Nothing complex here. You get descriptions of what each skill does, but too few points each level (initially) and there just isn't any real "wow" factor to them. They are simple bonuses to your skills and spells that fail to either impress or justify putting points into them. At level 5, with 11 points (all of my skill points up to this level) in melee, I still could not even equip a short sword. Yep. You can't even wield it if you don't have the "skill". Even a 5 year old can swing an axe and figure out which end is sharp. Stupid design decisions all around.
Finally, the unimportant crap: graphics and sound. It's no Baldur's Gate. The graphics are functional and convey the setting, but are not a selling point. You won't be listening to the soundtrack or even remember what the themes sound like, and the effects are of the basic quality. They meet the needs, but are not atmospheric and there is NO voice acting. This could be a good thing, though, as most tends to drag things out, but I did like the Baldur's Gate style of recorded "greetings" that were played when initiating dialogue.
All this said, I would rather play Fallout or Baldur's Gate again. This game appears to have promise, but is not going to be on par with those other titles. Though they might be older, they had much bigger budgets at the time and it certainly shows.
Final Verdict: you should only get this if you've played the Infinity engine (Baldur's Gate, Icewind Dale, Planescape) games and want something to tide you over until the world gets back to making decent games.
This is old school from the start. Beautiful artwork and a rich story. A bit heavy o the texts and the story a bit convoluted but does not detract from the gameplay and ambience.
The extras are simple awesome and include a great soundtrack, art book and codexes. This should be standard for indie and smaller developers to get the edge they are looking for. I was very impressed with the whole package. I will add this: you should have just concentrated on the Priest character and leave the Paladin and Thief for the other run of the mills RPGs.
Inquisitor won't disappoint. Good job!
The game is lame, boring... and incomplete, the devs concentrated their efforts in writing a huge composition of interesting(they are) dialogs, but that's all...no gameplay, no immersion...zero replayability. I d rather played zork anthology again....
By old skool we commonly refer to those games which we still have in mind for their excellence in gameplay, though the audio & visuals wont stand the test of time. INQUISITOR is NOT like that. This succeeds only in one discipline, and that is how to copy well known game elements and mix them uninspiringly together. I don'T know where to start.
the lack of a actual good combat syste.
a game not error prone.
the whole world of this game feels sterile, lifeless, though it isnt generic!
Horrible item icons, which make you most frightened.
In general, I have the impression, they really had no motivation how to make a good rpg, but just an rpg.
And thats what this game is, just another rpg.
and there are already much better to try.
This game is waiting for a review. Take the first shot!
