Nice AVN in a camp
The story is OK and the characters are likable. The renders are well done, the animations as well, but could be improved a bit. I played the visual novel mode and not the roaming mode (nor the mini games), which might be the reason, why not a single achievement popped. Overall, it was OK playing it, but I would have preferred a story with a bit more depth (which is probably difficult with the camp setting).

Surprisingly deep
So this is not my kind of game. I "bought" this only in support of the forced ban on adult games on Steam as I don't support unreasonable censorship. However, this isn't just some nude-sex-fest (not that it is lacking in that), but somebody did some actual writing and storytelling here w/ depth to characters. An actual old-school text-adventure hidden beneath an adult premise. Extremely well done and I'm glad I gave it a shot just to see the state of adult gaming. I think a 16 year old could of course play this game one way, while someone decades older could play it very differently and wind up playing something completely different. Well done.

The Hotties do need help…
… of the technical kind. Apparently, if you don’t have Steam installed, this game won’t even launch. To fix that paste the following in the notepad: # disable_steam.rpy init python: try: import steamapi class DummySteam: def __getattr__(self, name): def dummy(*args, **kwargs): return None return dummy steamapi.SteamTimeline = DummySteam steamapi.SteamUserStats = DummySteam steamapi.SteamUser = DummySteam steamapi.SteamFriends = DummySteam except Exception: pass and save it into Helping the Hotties\game as ‘disable_steam.rpy’. Dear GOG, please fix this issue. And this isn’t the only technical problem, no achievements unlock either and I have absolutely no idea why. Now, the good news. This is a pretty decent erotic visual novel. The character-driven plot is coherent and by no means boring (if majorly skewed towards sexual situations, but that is to be expected, given the genre), the characters are well-written and likable (again, within the expectations of an erotic VN) and it’s longer than I initially thought, which can be a hit or miss. I’d rather it were a bit shorter. You do get a lot of freedom in terms of which girls to pursue. The sex scenes are really good; they’re not censored, they’re animated, and even offer some control. The game is very generous when it comes to backtracking and exploring different options - you can rewind the story backwards (not indefinitely, but you’ll be able to undo a decision most of the time), save and load anywhere - it’s complete freedom. I also appreciate the ability to switch between the Free Roam and VN modes, and to disable mini-games (which are either a VERY easy ‘find an object’ puzzle or an actually challenging timed cursor-controlled maze). But there are certain questionable gameplay mechanics I have beef with. Firstly, the panties. This game has collectibles and there are A LOT of them. Granted, you can enable hints to help you spot them, but it’s still super distracting and tedious, and you are still very unlikely to find them all without a walkthrough, as you need to make specific choices for some of them to appear. Honestly, whoever thought of putting so many collectibles into a VN? If you’re a completionist, collecting them becomes your main objective, which really shouldn’t be the focus. It distracts from everything else. The second problem is the X-Ray mechanic. I mean… it sort of defeats the purpose of the game, if the purpose is to get with girls you like. Being able to get them naked with a single mouse click in every scene makes nudity overly gratuitous, IMO. There is even an achievement to ‘X-ray everything,’ but, fortunately, the achievements don’t work, so this button can just be ignored. It’s not at all a bad game, but it suffers from a couple of technical problems (which seem to be GOG’s fault, but still) and a few questionable mechanics. If they’re not a dealbreaker, you’ll probably have a good time with this game.
