I'm a casual gamer and have survived other games like control but I will be asking for money back on this one because this is too difficult for me and I keep redoing every wall hundreds of times to move forward. Also, all the opponent shots are fatal on first shot which raises the difficulty seriously. And there is no difficulty option but I do respect that decision. I wish there was more guidance inside the game, there is a little bit of help at the beginning but after few screens it goes away.
BUT I can't figure out how to rate this game because some better gamers might enjoy the challenge. Also visuals are stellar, and this is smooth as butter on my GTX 1660.
Basically a gory, cyberpunk mirror's edge.
It plays really smooth and got a really nice aesthetic.
It can be challenging and is a lot of trial and error. But if you get the hang of it it is a super satisfying experience.
Imagine a difficult Trackmanie track. There is a dedicated restart Button.
The Good:
- Nailed the Cyberpunk theme.
- Runs very well (with rtx off) on dx12.
- When everything flows right, it's very satisfying.
- Different enemy types as you progress + abilities.
- The difficulty. Definitely a challenge at times. A good one however.
- No issues with voice acting and animations.
- The launch price. Game is for sure worth £20-£25.
- Upgrade system.
The Meh:
- Somewhat generic story.
- Sometimes it's hard keeping momentum when it clearly should be possible.
- The enviroments while do somewhat change, all feel too same-ish after a while.
The Bad:
- Pacing.
- Terrible RT optimisation. Unless you have a very good cpu, it will bottleneck your rtx card.
Main reason for giving this game 5 instead of a 4 which it probably deserves, is the fact that while the game isn't anything wow, it sure is fun to play as well as satisfying.
Runs in Borderless window mode. Smooth performance with no noticeable hiccups. Amazing game play.
Wall-running and jumping, platforming, cyberpunk post-apocalyptic theme. These developers must have had a blast building the levels in this game, it is amazing. Only one hour into the game and I can already tell there was a lot of love and effort put into this game. You kill and die really fast too, but the best part of this is that there's virtually no loading time. You die, the game picks back up immediately at last checkpoint so you don't miss a beat.
I was looking forward to this game since I saw the advertisement video on the store page, I am extremely happy to have bought this game. It is very challenging but also very fun and satisfying and very awesome.
Like other reviews have stated, this is *not* a game for everyone.
I'd argue that the whole "casual" and "hardcore" comparison isn't even applicable here. This game is specifically for the person and/or mindset that likes rehearsing the perfect run over and over again. It's probably closest to the "kaizo" genre of platformers in terms of what it demands from the player. If this sounds appealing to you, add two stars to the review. This game is for you.
Once that perfect run happens, it feels really, really good. But until that happens you're going to meet the restart screen many, many times. My main criticism isn't that it's too difficult (which it is), but that there are very few viable routes through encounters, and the game doesn't allow much deviation from that. But again, once you do figure out that route, it feels great.
This game is waiting for a review. Take the first shot!
