Did you ever want to reroute power to the shields, set phasers to stun,
or even eject the warp core? Well, now you can! In FTL, you experience the
atmosphere of running a spaceship trying to save the galaxy. It's a
dangerous mission, with every encounter presenting a unique challenge with
multiple solutions. What will you do if a heavy missile barrage shuts down
your shields? Reroute all power to the engines in an attempt to escape,
power up additional weapons to blow your enemy out of the sky, or take the
fight to them with a boarding party? This "spaceship simulation
roguelike-like" allows you to take your ship and crew on an adventure
through a randomly generated galaxy filled with glory and bitter defeat.
FTL's complex strategic gameplay allows you to give orders to your crew,
manage ship power distribution, and choose weapon targets in the heat of
battle. You will encounter unique alien lifeforms and technology. You can
upgrade your ship and unlock new ones with the help of six diverse alien
races. Be the Captain you want: hundreds of text based encounters will
force you to make tough decisions. In the randomized galaxy each
play-through will feature different enemies, events, and results to your
decisions. Each time you play another challenging session of FTL:Faster Than Light, it won't be quite the same.

Quick play sessions (from 5 to about 90 minutes) will allow you to add that spaceship commander feeling to any of your days.
It may be simple, but it's definitely my game of the decade. I looked forward to this game for months after missing the kickstarter, and I was not let down... four straight hours and I'm still in need of more. Amazing. Well done.
I wanted to like this game but it's just too random. it's basically a game of constantly making blind choices and hoping enough of them pay off (or at least don't hurt you) to beat the game.
for example one run I was doing fine boppnig through sector 3, then boom picked the wrong node, 4 guys with lasers beamed aboard and were far too tough for my crew of 3 to beat. game over just like that.
the utter randomness combined with the ability for a lucky first shot to completely tip the balance of a fight against you makes this game simply too hard and fickle for my tastes.
I've been playing this game in the late beta for the past two weeks. It is excellent - lots of polish, good balancing, hard but fair.
It is also highly, highly addictive. It reaches deep into your brain and tugs on that "just one more turn" string. One turn becomes five becomes ten, and then it's "Oh crud, I meant to head to bed an hour ago."
I've put a good twenty hours in so far and I've only managed to beat the game once (on easy), I've only scratched the surface of the hidden secrets and I've unlocked less than half the extra ships. I'm having a blast.
After a bit of experience with this game you'll realise that player input means nothing.
You're rolling dice vs. the computer. There is very little you can do, as an experienced player, that will affect the outcome in your favour.
Everything is far too random, and you are given no real choice for strategy. You can only hope the random number generator places some useful items along the way.
You may as well play Roulette.
While this game gets many things right the difficulty can be just a little too fickle a great deal of the time. It has a great feel and good game mechanics but after playing it for a while I feel like luck has a lot to do with the outcomes. You definitely get better at playing and as the game suggests "death is part of the fun" but much too often you'll run into a ship that just annihilates you. I understand running away is part of the game but you don't even have a chance to do that. Apparently this was the intent of the developers but after a while it is simply frustrating when out of no where you get your ass handed to you. I am not a hardcore gamer and it seems not everyone has the same problems I do. Initially very enjoyable especially for $10 but can get frustrating pretty quickly.
This game is waiting for a review. Take the first shot!
