Dungeon Keeper Gold™

Great game, well remastered and cheap from GOG, very happy to find this works on Windows 11. 10/10 for the game, highly recommend if you've never tried it. Some glitches, which you can mostly find workarounds for on the forums. took a while to get the screen a good size and not cropping the right hand side. Every now and again it decides to mess with the mouse controls and you have to save, exit out and restart.

Had the game for over a decade now, always one of the first games I reinstall from disc after a re-format or computer rebuild. This has to be the greatest game that Peter Moleneux (The creator of Black and White and Fable) has ever had a hand in. The game is full of humor and dripping with atmosphere. The games premise is fairly unique... It's a top-down birds eye view of the "Battlefield" like your typical RTS. However what sets it apart is you burrow through the dirt to lay the foundations of a Dungeon, mine "ore" rocks for income and attract monsters through a portal to train, slap, send to war, research, build traps the works. You also have unique abilities of your own, like possessing a creature which sends you into a First-Person perspective where you control the critter you select which is allot of fun... Or call down bolts of lightning, heal creatures, reveal the map the works. Simply put, I wish this was a franchise that didn't end with Dungeon Keeper 2. The genre-mixing, great art, excellent game play, witty dark humor is simply great. If you haven't played Dungeon Keeper, grab it. - Don't think about it, just do it and give it a whirl... This is one of the greatest games of all time that is completely unique to anything else out there today.

Bullfrog in its golden years was a paragon of innovation, with titles such as Populous, Syndicate, and Theme Park all providing incredibly unique gameplay that was surprisingly indepth and competent for their ambitions. Dungeon Keeper however, will always be their sublime masterpiece. You can almost write an unending list trying to say what DK does right, the sound design is unparalleled, the atmospheric phenomenal, the voice acting and creature design dripping with love and mischievousness, the mechanics are incredibly fine tuned and everything just works and makes sense, the interface is absolutely marvelous for the time, the spells are varied and there's just a limitless amount of little touches, like the varying first person perspectives of various creatures (flies have several eyes, hellhounds see in desaturated color), the missions are difficult and have a variegated selection of goals and structure, the pathing for your creatures is good, and yadda yadda yadda. I can just go on, there are some slight issues, of course, and most of those relate to some of the mission design (some missions are borderline impossible until you find the one particular strategy to slog through them), but even then, the game is just so wonderfully well made that it's difficult to not have fun even while you are getting utterly crushed. The game provides a fairly decent amount of thought while playing as well, trap layout, dungeon layout, creature composition, deciding which creatures to train up for which situations, making sure your monsters aren't causing issues with each other, setting up guard rooms in order to give a decent response time and forewarning to dangerous situations. You just almost always find yourself doing SOMETHING, and in a game where your units are mostly automated and do as they do, that's a simply stunning development. With KeeperFX out, you can even play with updated resolution and bugfixes. No reason not play this damn game right now, buy it, but it.

I have a CD version of this game. Unfortunately, it cannot install or run on my computer (Windows 7 64 bit) anymore. This GOG version resolve my problem. Although it's a DOS version, the resolution is accetable by Alt+R. Recommend for guys who love this game, and want to play it again on today's computer.

I was really happy to see the game has been made available and even features a better resolution (press alt+R ingame) which is nice, certainly not necessary for GOG lovers, but still. What is completely annoying, however, the "options" are there just for show. You can try to redefine keys, but the game won't register 99% of them. You can try to shutdown the most annoying ingame music of all times, but even though the game shows it being turned of, it is just as loud and superfluous as it ever was. You have to select "yes" on the "invert mouse" option to actually NOT have an inverted mouse. All the "launch options" except for languages and "graphic settings" do literally nothing. A shame, I expected the game to receive a bit more love and attention, but then again I picked it up on sale and it runs. DK being an amazing game with almost every big language localisation provided, would be enough for 5/5, but given the "just for show" menus and options is -2 overall.
