Opis
The world is living under the dark shadow of a nefarious dragon. Villagers are turning into stone. Armies of skeletons, swarms of wasps, and lumbering ogres lurk everywhere. Evil is spreading like wildfire. And you're the only one who can put an end to it.
Scattered across the kingdom are seven ancient major crystals which together invoke the power of the Orb. Without it, you have no hope of defeating your fire-breathing nemesis. You will creep through dungeons and castles, explore the wilderness, encounter traps, curses, and puzzles on your quest to unearth the crystals. It may take months. It may take years. It may take away any hope you ever had of living a normal, productive, twentieth-century life.
Darkstone is a classic hack'n'slash game with everything a good game of its kind should have: randomly generated loot, four character classes, a well-implemented cooperative mode, and four difficulty levels that use the well-known Diablo-style formula of each level being the possibility of further progression for you character. In addition, the game mechanics are extremely smooth and fluent. Bottom line, if you feel like killing some evil monsters and saving the world in the process you can’t possibly go wrong with Darkstone.

A fantastic Diablo clone!
It's built just like Diablo, though you can wear four rings and two amulets at once. There are four worlds with two randomly picked quests in each, so good replayability. Four classes with two genders each. Recommend.

Kinda clunk
I grew up playing this on the PS1, so I'm very used to playing this with a controller, but man does the PC version clunk out. There is so much darkness, it's really hard to see most of the time, some how the PS1 had better draw distance. Picking up items is difficult and the point and click movement is really wonky sometimes. It's still the game I grew up with, but its PS1 version is so much better. Gave up after one of my characters wondered into a mine field and died and when I used my last resurrection scroll, she was instanly killed by the mines again. I'll try again someday, but, ugh!

I played the crap out of this game on the ps1 and downloading it right now from gog. Loved this game and cant wait to play it on my toshiba :)

Old, clunky, and did not age well.
The title says it all, but I'll dive a bit more into it. This game has aged about as well as the contents of a septic tank. It started badly and then became much worse with time. I'll give credit where credit is due: this game gets a point above the minimum due to the replay-ability options. A lot of games from this era lacked difficulty selection and character import/export features, but Darkstone seems to have implemented it well. There is also quick-save mapping which is incredibly useful in any game where it comes up. Now for the rest of it. Well, it is by far the worst Diablo clone I've ever played. There was some nostalgia in Darkstone for me since I initially played it back on PS1. For a game that came nearly two years after the first Diablo and on the brink of Diablo 2 no less, Darkstone is awful in many regards. To start, you will fight in this dark world. Oh, you will fight. You will be fighting for your life with the atrocious camera. The 3D design of Darkstone is gimmicky at best, but typically incredibly clunky. This "feature" wholeheartedly differentiates it from the Diablo games. Continuing, pick any single aspect of Diablo that Darkstone cloned, and you will see that it is a much crappier version of it. You have quests galore, but no quest log. Overlay map completely obscures your view. The monsters are hard to spot and fight. The loot is even harder to spot and pick up. Magical items are terrible. There is seemingly inflation happening in town as all prices are ballooning... but sometimes not. You can make yourself an AI companion to travel, but lo and behold, your line of effect can be blocked by your allies. Combined with clunky combat to begin with, and this becomes an exercise in frustration. Then of course you have traps which will either do nothing or straight up kill you. None of this is worth it, especially since the story is dismal and forgettable. If you have never played this game before, avoid it. Buy Diablo and call it a day.
