Scattered across the kingdom are seven ancient major crystals which together invoke the power of the Orb. Without it, you have no hope of defeating your fire-breathing nemesis. You will creep through dungeons and castles, explore the wilderness, encounter traps, curses, and puzzles on your quest to unearth the crystals. It may take months. It may take years. It may take away any hope you ever had of living a normal, productive, twentieth-century life.
Darkstone is a classic hack'n'slash game with everything a good game of its kind should have: randomly generated loot, four character classes, a well-implemented cooperative mode, and four difficulty levels that use the well-known Diablo-style formula of each level being the possibility of further progression for you character. In addition, the game mechanics are extremely smooth and fluent. Bottom line, if you feel like killing some evil monsters and saving the world in the process you can’t possibly go wrong with Darkstone.

this is probably one of the most underrated games in the hack n slash genre, it got everything that makes a good game, game mechanic is pretty much simular to what u find in diablo. what really makes this game shine imo is the fact u can control 2 characters which makes for a unique gameplay with lots of options in how to get thro the game, also opens the opertunity that if you uncertain if you like one class or the other, pick em both and play with the one your most comfortable with while the other tags along and helps you in the tricky situations. if your fan of the hack n slash genre, you gonna love this hidden gem
I'm surprised no one has reported this... And more surprised by the high ratings for a game that opens in in full screen at 640x480 resolution without having the option to increase it. Fan patches do not solve the problem and still cause slowdowns. I wish I could play this game at a decent resolution, but it won't be possible, so be warned!
I loved the game when it first came out. Too much clipping in the game makes it impossible to play using Windows 7. I didn't get any help from GOG Support.
The only thing that ain't good is the hunger and aging mechanics. Outside those the game has aged well enough gameplay wise and obviously not graphically. It can be played on modern hardware without issue. Its a lot of fun and the PC version is the superior version to play so if you only ever played the bad PS1 port you need the PC version. A lot of fun, simple, and you can have two characters instead of one so if you play alone you got a friend so choose wisely who you will bring with you.
Love this game! Easy enough for an 8 year old to learn yet fun for a 70 year old to play from time to time! Though the base quests are the same, theres enough difference in game play to keep it interesting!
