Fun time demon smashing

I very much enjoyed this game. The world and its story is quite good, the different environments bring enough change of scenerie that you don´t get bored by it. The game mechanics are great, too. The fighting and its combo mechanics work very well and lead to fluent encounters and precise evil-stomping. The camera is often in the way though, especially when the character fights near a wall. I had some frustrating moments because of the camera doing its own thing. The ledge grabing and such sometimes doesn´t work as it should. That are two minor complaints from me. The puzzles are cool and not unfair, some took me a little bit but ulrimately via try and error I could figure all of them out. Boss encounters could have been a little better balanced, some earlier ones felt much harder then the later ones. But all in all the boss fights were good. Cut scenes were great overall but some awkward cuts in picture and tone were noticable. Overall the game experiance was great, it took me around 17 hours to complete my first playthrough.

How did i miss this game?

What a lovely game to play. I just finished the PC version without a controller. The game has a few minor bugs in "range" targeting mostly but nothing that will prevent you from enjoying the game. The UI is designed for console users and if you're a pc gamer will confuse you a bit the first couple of hours. Apart from these, the movement and battles are very fluent. The graphics are great and never fell bellow 60fps. The battles are enjoyable with various finishing movements. Your character is amazing and as long as you play it progresses gaining great features like his horse, abysmal armor, chain hooks etc. Puzzles in game are easy to solve. In easy mode, the game is really enjoyable and very fun to play. The cut-scenes are awesome following a very interesting scenario. Overall, a great game and somehow addictive judging from the fact that I now have a burning desire to play the 2nd part of the sequel.

The bloody side of the Dark side.

A hack and slash game that has you taking control of one of the 4 horsemen of the apocalypse, War, in a quest for revenge against those who wronged him. I liked the character designs for the angels, demons and war himself. The game also looks pretty good overall, and the areas are filled with some beautiful scenery. Exploring the world itself is enjoyable, but it would nice if War moved a little faster. Gameplay is mainly hack and slash combat and some puzzle solving. Your main armament is War’s greatsword, Chaos-eater. You have two side weapons to throw in for some additional moves, special abilities and some other tools you can incorporate into your combos. The combat is fun overall. Your attacks feel impactful enough and you have the option of executing weakened enemies with extreme prejudice, and a lot of flair. Great fun, especially when you feel like partaking in more cinematic brutality. You have one execution animation for each enemy, but you will usually encounter a lot of each enemy, which can make looking at the animations boring after some time unfortunately. Your moveset can also feel lacking in terms of variety. Puzzles are interesting enough and are not too difficult to solve mostly, can be a nice change of pace. The game’s plot is not exactly original, can be cheesy sometimes too, but it is enjoyable. War is your usual super serious protagonist, which can have its appeal, and the other characters you meet can be interesting in their own ways. Overall I would recommend this to anyone looking for a good hack and slash game.

Great adventure, a lot of action

... and a system that appreciates cinematic death moves o/ I want to emphasize two things in order to add something to the existing (and mostly complete) reviews here: 1.) The combat system of Darksiders allows you to end an enemy in a bunch of different ways (by choosing the base attack move it shows a certain finishing move). So your avatar does quite a lot of cinematic and sometimes over the top killing moves, which look very nice. But these moves don`t just look good, they fill up a meter for special powers. So it`s recommended to fight hollywood style - that`s the upside. Downside is: after a while these matrix styled sequences get repetitive, but you need them to do a special attack in order to win the fights. 2.) A lot reviews say that you ABSOLUTELY NEED a game controller to get anything done. IMHO that is wrong. I played the whole game on keyboard and mouse and I was happy with it. Nevertheless a controller will make it easier. The game was made for console gaming after all.

Great game, but....

I would not recommend playing the Warmastered edition. There's a bug that basically desynchs music and sounds from cutscenes, leaving only voices. It's jarring, and really disrupted my enjoyment of the game. But if you download the "Legacy" version (the original), it plays perfectly, and, imho, it still looks acceptable. Besides, you're generally too busy killing demons to note any minor graphical imperfections. The gameplay is solid; This series has become my "Gothic Action/Adventure" fix ever since the Legacy of kain series died. This is a dark, gothic Zelda, where you play as the Horseman of the Apocalypse. It borrows a lot from Zelda in terms of exploration and gadgets, and it's like God of War in the sense that you face some massive, cool bosses. It's not a perfect game, but it's a fun one that's not trying to be anything other than a fun game. And what it does, it does well.
