Crysis®

Despite its age Crysis is one of the sweetest shooters that still looks great 10yrs after its release. Level-design is top-notch, the maps are huge and the Cryengine renders them with the amount of detail that every die-hard FPS-fan should be happy with. Had tremendous fun with this game back then and now, after re-descovering it via the GOG-version. The game is still worth every cent, despite some flaws I encountered (see below). DOWNSIDES: The first 3/4 of the game Crysis does everything right: you get a nice variety of weapons, a Nanosuit that enhances your tactics and an environment that let's you approach any task in any way you see fit. The final quarter, though, was not so fun anymore: Crysis puts the focus on scripted events and you find yourself bereft of weapons or the freedom to accomplish a quest "your way". The final 3 missions are a neverending string of "do this & do that"-scripts. Beginning with map "Exodus" those scripted events caused show-stopping bugs on my setup (enemies just freezing but invulnerable) making it impossible to advance any further without the console. Same things happend in maps "Ascension" and the final map, where I was fighting an assault forever as the mission wouldn't advance. TLDR: I love the game, fantastic shooter, but I will never forgive Crytek for taking away your freedom of play towards the end of the game, after firstly encouraging you heavily to "do it your way". It's still a 4/5

I think this game is the mixture of Halo and Far Cry. For me this is the PC-oriented version of Halo 3 with elements from Far Cry, and I really love it. The gameplay is so intense and full of oppurtunities. You can find so many ways to complete the tasks. The story is amazing and original. And the graphics, Jesus, this game is so beautiful, really beautiful. It came out in 2007, and games that came out last year or this year are on the same level as this in graphics. If you like sci-fi and first person shooters or you're a fan of Halo (like me) you should try this. 10/10

I bought this game for the memories of tactical freedom. The world simulation in this game is amazing. Allow me to demonstrate with a story; One time during my first playthrough, there was a wooden hanging bridge that connected a mostly jungle area to an enemy camp. A firefight ensued and the bridge exploded in various wooden pieces onto a river below, due to a grenade going off. Enemy numbers were a little higher than expected, so the option was die or run. I dropped down to the river, climbed and went prone on one of the planks that fell from the bridge and allowed the water stream to carry me down the river past an enemy outpost, while I was using active camouflage to avoid detection. This is one of my best gaming moments, in any game. Buy.

Crysis is one of those games I've always heard about but never got to experience. I'm just recently getting back into PC gaming after over a decade of owning workhorse PCs that couldn't run any games. With the purchase of a somewhat budget gaming laptop, I decided to give this much loved PC classic a try. Did I think it lived up to expectations? Yes and no. Even 13 years later this game looks incredible. I can understand why it's still talked about to this day. The vistas are huge, the areas expansive, the level designs intricate with foliage, mountain ranges, waterfalls, and the like. From a gameplay perspective, I can imagine that this blew PC players' minds upon initial release. Suit powers, cloaking abilities, weapon mods on the fly, being able to use stealth or blunt force to work your way through enemy territory. That being said, I found the game to be needlessly difficult at times. I admit to being a mostly console/gamepad guy for a long, LONG time. I'm still trying to get used to mouse and keyboard after over a month of getting a decent gaming laptop. Still, sometimes this game just throws so much at you that I found my fingers getting extra fat and sluggish. I died often. I died constantly. It got frustrating in certain points, especially the last boss fight where ammo is at a premium and the sky is literally falling on your head. Frustrations aside, I give that a pass. I appreciate the game for what it is: an adrenaline fueled sci fi shooter with brains that doesn't hold back and is filled with some rather spectacular set pieces. I can see why this thing was melting top end gaming rigs even ten years after release. Honestly, I'm surprised my budget level Acer was able to run it as solidly as it did. I'm also glad I gave this game a shot. It's definitely a classic.

I spent half of my time in the game crouching invisible in a corner waiting for the enemies to appear so I could pick them up one by one. It was fun.
