Good, but not great.

In some ways I like it more than caesar 3 (you don't have to micromanage walkers) but in scale it falls short. Where as in previous caesar games you build sprawling cities in this its just a couple buildings. I've owned this game on other platforms since it came out and beaten twice. My main gripe with it is the maps are indeed cramped and the buildings are huge. Even the bigger maps later in the game just feel like they don't really give you enough space to build a proper roman city, and it in that way it reminds me of a scaled down ANNO, where its more about managing space on a tiny map for a handful of buildings. Not a bad game and worth $10 to people who like city builders but it honestly doesn't have the feel of its predecessors.

Highly addictive and a little buggy

Running it on Windows 10. The labor allocation in Caralis started giving me bogus numbers when the pop gets near 1,000, and seems to quit working. Crashed a couple times, but been running it 4-12 hours a day the first week. It's intoxicating enough. To say the least. A very responsive city-builder. Gorgeous map. Ingenious strategies that slowly dawn and develop over multiple attempts-- can I really handle special orders by annually cycling the number of my plebs with common goods? Maybe we'll see by 4 am. Oh yeah, almost forgot: on mine, anyway, the "back" build button doesn't work. It actually charges me the same amount all over again, when I cancel. If a road costs 200 Dn and I cancel it, I'm out 400. Saving while I build as an alternative. Overall, it's extremely immersive, pretty, & fairly well crafted. Very easy to fall into for long periods if you happen to go for that kind of thing.

Loved Caesar 3, but this one is just bad

I bought it (not on GOG) and throw it away after a couple of days, which I rarely do. I am (still) playing Caesar 3 and I love its mechanics. It lets you feel those ancient times and it also offers very challenging economy model. Caesar 4 is different however. Many game titles were screw up by adding 3D graphic into them (Worms being the best example). The same goes for Caesar 4. I was so tired by rotating my buldings and trying to properly choose build location for them. For me, this game is more about proper clicking and dragging than about designing and implementing your strategy. If you care more about gameplay than about graphics, this may not be the best choice for you.

Uwielbiam tę grę

Szkoda, że wersja GOG nie jest w polskiej wersji, bo edycja pudełkowa takową posiadała, włącznie z dubbingiem i była to bardzo dobra robota. Dlatego wolę wersję pudełkową. Ekipa GOG mogłaby się pokusić o zdobycie polskiej wersji, warto. Jest naprawdę dobrze wykonana. Gra posiada grafikę, która ładnie się starzeje pomimo 3D. Wciąż z wielką przyjemnością można patrzeć na wschody i zachody słońca spacerując ulicami swojego miasta. Mniej udane rzeczy w tej grze to niewydolny silnik graficzny (duże miasta potrafią przyciąć każdy komputer ze względu na przeciętny silnik, niewykorzystujący możliwości obliczeniowych obecnych komputerów). Kuleje interfejs, który nie jest zbyt wygodny w użyciu. Kiepsko wygląda również animacja i walka żołnierzy, właściwie militarny aspekt gry nie dorównuje ekonomicznemu - można jednak wybrać scenariusze w kampanii, które skupiają się na rozwiązaniu ekonomicznym lub typowo wojskowym. Poza tym gra nie ma większych wad. Wciąga niesamowicie. Poziomy trudności są doskonale dobrane, chociaż dla osoby dobrze znającej grę nawet poziom trudny nie będzie stanowił dużego wyzwania, da natomiast sporo satysfakcji. Znakomity tytuł, warty zapamiętania, bo oferuje mnóstwo satysfakcjonującej rozrywki zarówno w trybie kampanii jak i piaskownicy. Moja absolutnie ulubiona gra z gatunku city builder, a próbowałem ich wiele, zwłaszcza w realiach starożytnego Rzymu. Żadna nie przebiła Cezara IV, do tej pory. Raczej nie ma szans, by to się zmieniło.

Underrated

Great underrated game. If funding and development hadn't been limited on the developers side I think this game engine would have gone far. Here's some tips: 1. You got to build up kind of slow with stability. All 3 citizen classes will be content with little as long as nothing is taken from them. Loss of access to food or goods they previously had will result in them leaving the city, pretty much all mass migration from your city early in the game is a result of this. 2. Try to keep raw materials and industry close together. Warehouses can also help, if making armor set a nearby warehouse to accepting 1/3 iron, 1/3 wool, and 1/3 armour. 3. Trade depots/ports are just big warehouses. If you need those goods in your city also, limit the amount of goods the depot is accepting in the building's menu and this will force workers to take the goods elsewhere. This applies even if you have set limits with the trade advisor. 4. As you build more farms you'll need more granaries. Granaries seem to work better if they only accept one food type. Also don't forget to build another market or two as your city gets bigger.
