Fight as a mighty Valkyrie to repel the forces of the underworld from invading the world of Asgard.
Gameplay
In BPM, all of your actions and the actions of your enemies are tied to the beat of the music. Your enemies perform a dance-like sequence of attacks to an epic rock opera. BPM is inspired by retro shooters of the 90’s. It is fast, frenetic and rhythmical. You can double jump, dash, rocket jump and bunny hop to evade your opponents.
Your goal is to reach the end of randomly generated dungeons, collecting different weapons, abilities and items each time you play. These weapons and abilities can radically alter the way you play, making each playthrough unique.
You must defeat 7 bosses to reach the final boss. Each boss moves and attacks in a unique way that you must learn to exploit if you want to succeed. Some attacks require you to jump over fields of lava, some to dodge fast projectiles, some to hold fast for a beat.
Features:
Shoot, jump and dodge to the beat while battling hordes of enemies.
Fight powerful bosses in challenging boss battles that will push you to the edge.
Explore randomly generated dungeons.
Choose from 5 different characters with unique strengths and weaknesses.
Wield a powerful arsenal of weapons, all with different behaviour for firing and reloading to the beat of the soundtrack.

Utilize abilities that radically alter the way you play the game, from teleport to freezing bolts.
Equip over 40 items that buff your character in unique and interesting ways.
Experience an epic rock opera soundtrack.

The concept seems interesting. I'm not a fan of the execution.
If you don't "git gud" quickly, you'll be stuck repeating the same red level with the same music track playing a character that either has very low damage or almost no way to recover health.
Whether you get overpowered items or something that's completely useless to you is up to RNG.
The game has more ways to punish you than to reward you. Even the rhythm mechanic basically punishes you for making actions outside the beat. A single mistake can end your run.
It has been interesting for a few hours, but I think I'll move on.
I love this game. My only complaint is that there aren't more stages. I'm a sucker for metal, and shooting baddies to the beat of brutal, headbanging metal is just a great experience. The soundtrack is amazing, every song is very well composed. The performance on the guitar is amazing. The game is as much about the gameplay as it is about the music. If you're not into metal, you probably won't like the music and therefore you won't like the game. And about the complaints that the music is all the same, it's really not, you just need to have an ear for metal. Also, it's like an album, and if you've ever listened to any album by a single artist, the songs usually use similar keys, instruments, tunings, and composition styles. Normally, if an album has songs that sound very different from each other, it's because they were composed by different people. The soundtrack was composed and performed by the same 2 people.
Difficulty:
I would say that, this is probably one of the most forgiving rogue-likes I've ever played. Sure, I struggled when I first played on Easy mode, but eventually you get used to the gameplay and shooting+dodgeing becomes pretty easy to manage. Even Hard mode is not that much more difficult, there are more rooms, more enemies, and the AI seems to be smarter, but they have the same HP as in Easy. As long as you can dodge and shoot, it's easy. There are no I-frames from taking damage as far as I can tell.
RNG:
The game uses a luck mechanic, so you can influence drops by increasing your luck stat. It may not be necessary though, as there are only so many items in the game, you will quickly learn what's good and what isn't. Enemies attacks don't seem to be beholden to RNG either.
Wepons:
So, I won't spoil what weapons are in the game, but just expect Doom-like weapons. There isn't a very large selection to choose from, so I recommend experimenting early on and trying out different weapons rather than just B-lining to the final stage.
The trailer represents the game very well, fun rithm and aiming action, with the added of being a rougelite.
If you like rithm games, doom-like games, or games like the binding of isaac, chanses are you'll love it.
For the price, I'd say this is a must
After playing for some time, I've fallen in love with this game.
Stylish aesthetics with great metal soundtrack and heartwarming solos, and Nordic mythology on top of that. But most important thing that it is the true rogue-like in heart. Runs differ wildly with random items you can acquire. Some items are true game changers. On top of that there are different unlockable characters (like in The Binding of Isaac) that give spice to the run.
The feature of the game is that it's rhythm based (we've seen that in Crypt of the Necrodancer, which I highly recommend too). I've never played rhythm based shooter before and this is an interesting and positive experience. The game pushes you to dissolve in the music.
There are some rooms with jump puzzles (or rather jump challenges). These are completed more easily if you have items affecting you speed/jumps.
On the other reviews comments, people have noted that health, while being a number from 0 to 100 initially, are mostly consumed by most of the attacks by multiples of 25, basically having 4 hit points at start. This is not entirely true. Some mobs have auras that deal part of full damage, and there's at least one item that gives vamp (healing on damage) that increases health by single points. So gradual health makes sense.
Other people say it's short. Yes, it has only 7 levels with 8th as a boss. But the game has a high skill cap. I'm at 10h playtime right now and I've only reached level 4 recently. For average gamer (like me) this totally worth it.
Hint: look for the rooms with stars. Free items to pick up.
Funny saying that about a metal rhythm game, but let me explain.
The main draw of the game is doing - nearly – everything to a 4 or 8 count beat.

Hitting flow in those moments of chaos by balancing staying on beat with surviving & outputting dps, IS the fun of BPM. This game is awesome on that merit alone.
That being said, the visuals of the game make it hard for me at times to differentiate enemies from the backgrounds.
The Levels are all stylistic firey reds, blacks, oranges, yellows, etc.
The enemies are also colored in similar reds, blacks, oranges, and yellows.
They have a little glow about them, and its not impossible to tell enemies from floor tiles, but many a time I've walked past a slug or a spider I just didn't see and took damage because of it.
Totally my fault, I am sure of it. Maybe I was in the zone and missed them. But I feel if they were in more contrasting colors, it would make it easier to keep track of them. They might clash with the descending into firey Norse hell aesthetic the designers seem to be going for though.
I also wonder how friendly this color pallet is to colorblind players.
Good arcadey fun regardless. Just keep your eyes peeled.
FYI:
I don't own it on here. I have it on console.
