"He's nicer than other Daddies."

Bioshock 2 Remastered: GOG Edition is an excellent sequel marred by a few technical issues. It delves deeper into the world of Rapture and tells a surprisingly engaging, emotional tale. Gameplay improvements generally follow the "bigger and better" formula: Big Daddy bossfights are joined by Big Sister bossfights+, there are more weapons, more plasmids and tonics, hacking is streamlined, the controls are streamlined. The addition of "tower defence" segments that you need to carefully prepare for is a great concept. Nothing mould-breaking, but why mess with a winning formula? I have played through the entire game only experiencing the odd crash during intense combat sequences, but this never really causes a problem if you save regularly. One time though, during the Fontaine's Futuristics level, it failed to save successfully, and deleted all my existing saves! I literally had to start again from the beginning... Second time round, I thankfully never experienced that issue again. My suggestion is to always save in new slots instead of overwriting existing ones, and backup the save directory regularly.

Great addition to Rapture!

The unnecessarily underrated addition to the BioShock story, I enjoyed this playthrough immensely. Yes, the story is not quite as strong or surprising as the original game, but the voice acting is phenomenal and it really does fill out the Rapture world and events. The new areas are awesome, and the new combat styles are super fun. By the end of the game, I was pretty much only using drill slam, rocket spears, heat-seeking RPGs, and phosphorus buckshot. The combat is very satisfying, but the world is fun to explore to and see how many traps you can set up while your Little Sisters are gathering. And the game avoids BioShock's one misstep. I found the battle against Fontaine at the end of BioShock both inconsistently over-the-top and not particularly interesting - I beat him the first attempt. I dislike games having some ur-boss at the end. So I was glad that Sofia Lamb is not the final boss. Instead, the game ends with an awesome, chaotic, deathmatch style free-for-all (Prey 2017, take note, this should have been how you ended your game as well). There is no good reason to not play this if you liked BioShock. It is significantly shorter in my experience; BioShock took me about 30 hours, wheres BioShock 2 took me only about 20. But I enjoyed every minute. One caveat is that, while I bought BioShock and BioShock Infinite on GOG, I bougth BioShock 2 on Steam because that is the only way to get Minerva's Den. It's silly that 2K didn't upload that DLC to other venues. So decide whether you really want access to Minerva's Den or not when deciding where to get it.

Classic: Excellent, but with bugs

Bioshock 2 Classic itself is close to 5 stars. The game was thoroughly enjoyable once the bugs were fixed, which is the reason why I'm only giving it 4. The main game crashed frequently unless run in DX9 mode (using -dx9 tag on executable). Once that was done I had no issues. Minerva's Den (DLC) was excellent, but to get it to run on my PC I had to save a game on a windows 7 pc first (in order to use it on my windows 10 pc), nothing else I tried seemed to fix it crashing every couple of minutes.

It's more than a ok game

Even though I played the first game maybe three years ago, I did start to get slightly bored half way through. It felt like it was a lot of the same over and over. Don't get me wrong, it's a really good game and I do recommend it. But I simply just got a tad bored with it. If it wasn't for that, I'de actually give it 5 stars. Also, I didn't have a single crash wich some people mention. The only problem I had was a few slowloading textures on characters.

Great game but remaster is a failure.

I am a big fan of Bioshock series , played them many times, always amazed and utterly immersed in a strange and beautiful artistic vision and great gameplay. And recently I have been refreshing them one by one, starting with Infinite, then the first Bioshock, now a sequel. And I have to be blunt - I am glad I paid only about 2 dollars for Bioshock 2, thanks to discount. Constant crashes, camouflage tonic not working... I am sorry but maybe I missed the point/meaning of a word 'remastered". Does that include remastering issues that probably were present in original (still I don't remember facing such big issues then)? Or maybe it should mean fixing them, so gamers would not go berserk every 15 minutes the game crashes or something else doesn't work. But all in all - 2 dollars for such a "masterful remaster" is a fair price.
